Pitchers/Relievers

If i have a MR starting are his ratings counted as if he was a MR or as a starter?

Say hes 80 Stuff as a MR and 75 as a Starter, when the game sims what would it count it as if i listed him as a MR but put him in a starting spot.

If his official position is set to a MR, he'll be counted as a MR. If you change his official position to SP, then it'll consider him to be a SP even if he comes out of the bullpen.

If I remember correctly there is a difference in Stamina recovery times between MR and SP. The higher stuff rating will help when he starts. He may pay for it in availablity and effectiveness due to exhaustion.

Didn't Markus once say if a pitcher is used as a reliever then he gets a boost to his abilities? That makes some sense to me since it seems to be that way in real life (they can focus on using less, but better pitches). It wouldn't make sense to me if a pitcher who was starting got a boost just because he was labeled as a reliever.

Ratings do generally change as a MR. Beware, though, that a two pitcher reliever with great stamina may get lit up the second, third or fourth time through the lineup as players catch on to his limited arsenal.

If you closely watch what happens in a specific game, you will see the following:

1. A guy who is considered by the game engine to be an SP, will get a boost to the speed of his pitches (easiest to see on fastballs) if he comes in as an RP. He will also tire sooner, but you may never actually see that happen.

2. A guy who is considered to be an RP will get a reduction in the speed of his pitches if he is used as an SP, but he will be able to make more pitches in the game before he gets tired.

3. A guy who is considered to be a borderline or emergency starter gets treated in a more complicated way.

The pitch speed changes are clearly a major factor in how the pitcher performs in the role. It may in fact be the only factor and the way in which Markus arranged to give pitchers the boost or reduction that he talks about. If you watch the pitch speeds of opposing pitchers, you will be able to tell exactly what kind of pitcher he is.

Another factor is that a pitcher loses effectiveness about 90% of the way to where he would become "tiring". So an RP who starts a game has a good chance of getting hammered somewhere in the middle innings more often than would be true of an SP.

It just seemed like what I thought was the case was in conflict with what you said in your first post. I guess not necessarily though. Maybe his visual ratings are what they are when listed as a reliever, but if he's used as a starter then his effective ratings are indeed different.
