database questions

hello. sorry for asking a question some of you must have seen many times before. Ive been reading endlessly (all last night and now I find myself doing it again this morning) through many threads on peoples databases that are available on padresfan site, but the more I read the more muddled I become. So I juts have to swallow my pride and ask the dumb questions... sorry.

1. If I download a database, I see a 'stats' folder, which also exists in my current/default OOTP folders. Do I need to replace this one with the old one? Would my previous existing leagues then be reading from this new database and therefore be affected? I'd be interested to know what people do here.

2. Which database file is best suited for a league that would randomize all-time greats, not necessarily including Asian league & negro league players (I could use them, but I both no little about those leagues and OOTP itself, so maybe I should start off without them), but would have favourite players slowly coming through the draft each year? I would also like to be able to setup the league completely different to MLB (No subleagues, no MLB teams).

3. And which year would be best suited for that database file (based on the type of league I mentioned above)?

4. Does using OOTPX make a difference with a particular database?

5. Do I need to create a league first and then import the database file? Or do I set-up the database file first and then create a league?

6. What's the difference between databases and templates? Should I be going for templates first?

7. Any more tips with regards to using this modified databases?

Thanks again in advance. I guess its one of those things that until you actually do it yourself, it can be quite daunting that first time.

Randomized db not really available in a very functional form. The rest of the items you can do yourselves.
