Simmed history isn't fine. It's lame. If this is going to be a human-run league, then let humans determine its history. Every year of computer-generated results dilutes the whole universe more and more.

I think it's a matter of taste.
I always like simmed history; it allows the whole "chasing Marris" effect from the beginning by providing context for the achievements of my players/team. Plus, depending on your appetite for immersion, a from-scratch startup in the 1980s might feel odd. Maybe it's plausible as a successful USFL-type-thing, though, I dunno...

That said, I see your point about the history being forged by the people in the league.

I suppose it boils down to whether you want to feel like you're part of something or feel like you're making something.

I've attached the bylaws. Feedback is appreciated as it's really helped me refine the concept. For example, we're now going to display ratings AND talent, and we will use a hard cap rather than a soft one.

I'm still on the fence about two items, though:

Sim Schedules.
I want people to have control over their team, but I also don't want the league to be a hassle for anyone involved AND I want the sim speed to be fast enough that it doesn't take a year + of your real life to rebuild the team if your star gets hurt or your plan goes askew. I was originally thinking 30 days, but that might be too long. I'm currently thinking 20 days with injuries set to low.

Feeder Leagues vs. Generated Pool
The only real feedback my brother had was to go with feeder leagues rather than a generated draft pool. Do people agree? Does anyone know if the issue where feeder-league players develop differently than generated players been fixed?

Also, one concept that's not mentioned in the bylaws is that we're going to slot the initial salaries based on where the player gets drafted, rather than their salary demands. GMs will also have to pick the contract length when they select their player, but they only get three 5 year deals, two 4 year deals, and two 3 year deals. The rest of the players get either a 1 or 2 year deal depending on what round they're taken in the draft.

Salary Slotting:
Round 1 $15,000,000
Round 2 $12,500,000
Round 3 $10,000,000
Round 4 $7,500,000
Round 5 $6,500,000
Round 6 $5,000,000
Round 7 $4,000,000
Round 8 $3,000,000
Round 9 $2,000,000
Round 10 $1,000,000
Round 11 $1,000,000
Round 12 $1,000,000
Round 13 $1,000,000
Round 14 $1,000,000
Round 15 $500,000
Round 16 $500,000
Round 17 $500,000
Round 18 $500,000
Round 19 $500,000
Round 20 $100,000
Round 21 $100,000
Round 22 $100,000
Round 23 $100,000
Round 24 $100,000
Round 25 $100,000
Round 26+ Minor League Deal

How would we handle the finance. In one league we figured out salaries of each player via excel and could offer the players a contract from 1-7 years. Every 3 years was arbitration. How that was figured out, I'm not sure. But every year the salary was calculated based on stats. In an other league we had a player agent that didn't own a team but acted as the players. You had to negotiate with the player agent. It was a interesting feature.

I'm working on a feeder league issue for another league (I have a post on the first page of the ootp10 general discussion that describes the problem I ran into) but as soon as I get it straightened out I will share my findings. At this rate I will be an expert on feeder leagues in no time...

Will definitely take a look at the bylaws sometime today as well.

Okay, I've spent enough time looking and lurking . . .

I've been reading all of the posts . . . finally, it struck me: 'maybe this is a sign that you're interested in this new league.' I'd be interested in joining, if there are still openings. I'm in one other league (currently using 9.0) that I've been in for 3 years, real-time.

I really like the Franchise Player idea. It seems like a fun concept for baseball.

If you've been following this thread, and you're interested in joining, please head over to Imperial Baseball

It's not 100% finished yet; we still need a banner, and the league reports don't link to anything yet ... but it's more than functional. Head over there and fill out an application!

I read the by-laws, followed the application directions, and just now e-mailed you from this message board. Please just let me know whether or not you got it. Thanks.

I registered to the board, can I post now too? Or do you want to wait for new posts there?

All set, Old Reliable. You should be getting an email shortly.

Generally speaking, if I haven't emailed or PMed you saying you have a spot, you don't have one reserved yet. (Please check the preferred email you sent in on your app if you sent one). Right now we have 7 teams, which means there are 7 more spots available.

I think the concept of feeder leagues is great but I also think you'll find that the amount of space they take up in an online league file may not be worth the effort. I would set the league up without the feeder leagues and check the download size/time then do it again with them and see how much different it is and remember that the feeder league data size will increase the file as much as the main leagues depending on the amount of teams involved.

I'll be sure to check that out. We're only using feeder leagues for half of the players in the draft, and the draft is only generating enough players for 15 rounds. That might moderate the problem...

I just finished all the logos and color schemes for the 16 team college feeder league, the 12 team international league, and its 12 team minor league. I was able to borrow a little from my solo league... but it was still a bit of a pain.

The goodnews, though, is that things look great
