The LRS is a 12-team fictional league currently beginning its fifth year of play and second year as a human-run league. All franchises with the exception of Seoul are located in Japan. We have been fortunate to attract a quality group of friendly, competitive, active owners. We're always interested in getting to know more like-minded individuals with an interest in joining in our fun and would love to hear from you.

The LRS looks for the kind of person who views an online league as an opportunity not just to compete but to socialize and share with a group of passionate baseball nuts. If you enjoy being active in forums, you're likely a great fit. The LRS also places an emphasis on writing contributions. The amazing stories our creative owners come up with really help bring our fictional players to life! You don't have to be Shakespeare, but if you like exercising your brain as part of your online baseball experience then you've found the right league.

Creating an immersive and highly entertaining fictional baseball environment is the primary goal of the LRS. Niihama-shi came within a game of winning the 2010 Neo-Tokyo Cup

You couldn't ask for a much better entryway into the LRS than the Niihama-shi Ghosts. The team that finished tied for the best record in the league and that came just two runs short of winning it all last year presents a plum opportunity. You've got stars like 3B Nobuhito Hasegawa (2010 Shining Star Group Saiyu-shu-senshu (Outstanding hitter) winner) and 1B Shigochiyo Memoto (2007 & 2009 Shining Star Group Saiyu-shu-senshu winner). You've got intriguing prospects like Takeshi Hayashi and Hidetada Nishida (both 2010 draftee third baseman with light tower power), Tokugawa Hirano (a centerfielder - also a '10 draftee - with blinding speed), and Takeji Iitsuka (one of the better SP prospects in the league). That all these players are Japanese-born and thus won't count against the league's foreigner limit is a huge plus.

That's not the end of it. The Ghosts play in the LRS's second-largest market. Their fans are incredibly passionate about the team, as evidenced by their league-leading gate revenue last season. A new owner should be able to leverage this support to maintain a sizeable payroll. Let's face it; it never hurts to have a little spare cash in your pocket!

What the Ghosts don't have is an owner. This is where you come in. We'd like you to take control of the team and leave your mark on the franchise. Create a backstory for yourself. Are you playing as the billionaire owner of a famous sushi bar chain? Are you playing as the frustrated GM hamstrung by a meddling purse string-holder? Perhaps you're a lowly beat writer simply reporting on the affairs of the team? The choice is entirely yours. All you need to do is fill out this form to get the ball rolling.

I've just completed my first season in the League of the Rising Sun (LRS) and found it most rewarding on many levels.

The caliber of the league members in both the PEBA and the LRS is unmatched in my experience. I'm used to dominating every fantasy league that I'm in, but here I am just an also-ran. The commissioner, John Rodriguez, is wholly dedicated to this league and it is clearly his pride and joy. He even gave up his supremely successful PEBA team to be able to concentrate more fully on running the league.

What really sets this league apart is the creativity of its members. There are some truly talented writers in both leagues. Each year there are rewards given to the writers in no less than fourteen categories. It's astonishing, really.

So if you are looking for the cream of the crop in OOTP online baseball leagues, look no further.

While the PEBA has filled its vacancy, the Ghosts remain on the hunt for a new owner. This is a perfect time for someone to step in and lead the team. The LRS has just reached its preseason. Join now and set the Ghosts' scouting budget, then prep for the 2011 season by hitting the free agent market. This is a team with some budget room, after all; utilize it! I had contact with the commish of the league over the last few days as I was thinking of taking the Ghosts, in the end I decided I didn't have enough time to give to the league but have to say if ever I did have the time for another league the PEBA/LRS would be the first I'd visit. The work the commish puts into the league is second to none and replies quickly to any questions you have for him, so in ending if you have time for a league then you couldn't go wrong in giving this the once over.

I'll put in a good word for John and the effort he puts in to create a great environment. I'm new to the PEBA, the lucky one to take on his team in Aurora and he's been a great help in orienting me about the league. There's a great group of active guys, writing about the teams, the leagues (both PEBA and LRS), and about life in general. We had a great on-line round table Q & A session (in character) as we awaited the patch that was such fun I think it may become a regular occurrence. I seem to recall a series of board games growing up, I believe they were called 'The Thinking Man's Baseball' or perhaps it was football, or maybe both, but I'd certainly call the PEBA/LRS experience the "Thinking Man's OOTP" (not that the game isn't already......). He moves the league at a leisurely pace so that more time for writing and planning (and life) can occur. If you've got a creative mind and love the game, then this is the place for you.

I had a brief experience with the PEBA/LRS in the past, and it is definitely one of the best Commissioner's around with a second to none ownership base. If I had the time, I'd be chomping at the bit to take this team. But that's my loss and someone elses gain... Check out the league!

The PEBA and the LRS are very special to me and it's gratifying to hear that others are enjoying themselves as much as I am. And special thanks to ukhotstove for putting in a kind word. I was sorry that you didn't have time to join us right now, but know that we remain plenty interested if and when your schedule permits it.

We remain on the lookout for a new Niihama-shi owner. Fortunately there's still time to get hooked in. The LRS won't be playing their first Spring Training games until November 22. Obviously the sooner we get our new owner on board, the more time there will be to prepare for the crucial build-up to the 2011 season. There are still free agents to be signed, scouting budgets to be set and perhaps even trades to be made. We'd like you to be making the calls on these big decisions!

Though the Ghosts have their man, it may not be too late to join the LRS. The owner of the Hyakujuu Shinkansen is entering his final year of masters work, and thesis writing understandably has a way of taking a toll on one's time. While the owner currently remains at the helm of his team. he's given me the go-ahead to search for a possible replacement.

I'll post a more formal advertisement once I've gotten a better read on our current owner's status, but for now, be aware that we are currently accepting applications for a new Hyakujuu Shinkansen owner. There is still a week and a half before Spring Training begins - plenty of time to get situated and get yourself ready for the start of the 2011 season.

We've been extremely lucky to enjoy a fairly stable ownership base. However, openings can and will arise at a moment's notice. When an opening occurs, we will first turn to our waiting list before advertising here on the forums. If we've had a chance to get to know an applicant before a spot becomes available, that person is going to have a large leg up when it comes time to decide who will take over a vacant team.

If you have an interest in the League of the Rising Sun, we have an interest in getting to know you! To that end, we are currently holding an Open House, allowing interested applicants to introduce themselves to us and get their names on our official waiting list. Here are the steps you should take to become a part of the process:

1. Submit an application through the league homepage.
2. In the "Team you are interested in:" field, type in "Open House".
3. Include as much info about yourself as you can in the "Tell us about yourself:" field.
4. Check your inbox; you'll be receiving an email shortly with league information and instructions on how to join our forums.

Once you've received your forum information, you'll be able to converse freely with the league. Ours is an extremely communicative collection of owners. If you enjoy talking baseball (or just about anything else) with a group of intelligent, creative individuals, you're coming to the right place.

You'll be getting to know us, learning if we're the right fit for you. At the same time, we'll be familiarizing ourselves with you, so that when that next opening occurs, your name is at the top of the list. It's a win-win situation.

The lone Korean-based LRS team is looking for a new owner

Seoul is the only team in the LRS not to be based in Japan. The Crushers have hit hard times in recent seasons, falling from a high point BBG-winning 84-62 record in 2009 to a last-place 52-92 in 2011. Attendance and revenue have followed the fortunes of the club's won-loss record.

A hero is needed to step in and reverse this trend. That hero is going to need to make some decisions. For instance, do you offer arbitration to pending free agent Masutaro "Danger Man" Sato? He's perhaps the league's best closer and will surely be highly sought after on the open market, perhaps netting you two draft picks... if he doesn't accept your arbitration offer. Do you sign ace Yugoro 'Checkmate' Chouda to a long-term deal, or will you go year-to-year with him via arbitration? Will you rush Manabu Kawano to the big leagues or give him more time to develop at AAA Pyongyang?

While you're answering these questions, you'll be enjoying the company of some of OOTP's most active owners. You'll have difficulty finding a more active forum, and new articles roll in daily. The LRS is not a league for the soft-spoken. Come in, be heard, enjoy the camaraderie and the creativity!

With OOTP 11 on the horizon, a lot of people are getting interested in the game in general, and online leagues in particular.
