I am not so sure the new patch is bug free. I ended a fictional season the other day and cleaned out all the old news.txt files so that the game would load quicker. I was able to load the game in about 30 seconds, and it ran like a champ. The following day I patched up and load time went to over ten minutes. And in the past two days I have twice crashed to desktop (something that has never happened to me until now). I haven't been doing anything special other than simming games when the crashes occur.

Is there a way to unpatch?

Do I need to uninstall and reinstall? I don't have enough portable disk capacity to save my dynasty.

Thanks for any suggestions/help.

edit: Have now crashed three more times. It actually takes 8.5 minutes to load the game ("Handling Links and Bookmarks" takes the bulk of the time). I am playing less time than I am waiting to load. Unless anyone has a clue I will probably uninstall/reinstall tomorrow, but I am very leary of downloading the patch after the reinstall. I am guessing there is no way to load the previous patch, or uninstall the current patch?

I don't have any certain answers, but I remember someone having a problem with some similar characteristics, in which it seemed that the links and bookmarks files (in the page links folders in your saved game) were corrupted. I believe that simply trashing those, and allowing the game to recreate them would be something to try (backup your game first, or course )

Edit: I deleted those two files and I think that did the trick. Load time back under 1 minute and I've simmed through about 20+ games with no crashes (knocks on simulated wood desk). I really appreciate your help. Thanks for making my day.

About a week ago I was having issues with download times and crashes after downloading the new patch. After noticing that during the loading of the save, the process would hang up on "Handling Bookmarks and Links" for several minutes, at SteveP's suggestion I deleted my Bookmarks and Links files and everything seemed fine. Yesterday my fictional team went into the next calendar year and I had an auto save on 1/1/21. After simming through until mid-April, the game crashed again. Now load times are back up to several minutes, hanging in the same spot, even though I have again deleted those same files a couple times. I am sure if I attempt to play I will get more crashes also.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

edit: If I uninstall and reinstall the game, will my saved game remain intact in my OOTP10 Folder?

Not sure about the first question.
But if you uninstall/install your saved games will not be affected.
(although I would always,always back-up my league files)

So, it appears that there is something else that's gotten corrupted and buggy, and the bookmarks/links files are just innocent bystanders. Since I haven't a clue as to what that might be, I'd probably try a variety of things to see if I could fix the problem. At the very least, I'd de-license and download/re-install OOTP. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'd start to think that the problem was in my league files. If so, that could be hard to fix and still keep my league going -- it might have to be trashed.

Before you do that, however, you could FTP your game files to OOTPDev (see sticky thread on that above) to see if Markus or Andreas will take a look at it.

I will probably try to uninstall/reinstall next week to see if that helps. I'm still not convinced this has nothing to do with the Links and/or Bookmark files, as this is still where my game hangs during loading. Could it be that when the program is rewriting these files each time, they are corrupted at the outset?

I will look into the FTP to Markus option if the reinstall doesn't work. Thanks, again SteveP.
