Unlicensing Windows Versions

Why

First, I should maybe explain why one would even want to unlicense the game. With the license you've purchased you typically get the right to install the game on 2 different computers. If you want to re-install the game or just don't want to use the game on the computer it's already installed on then you probably want to unlicense the game. This is especially the case if you've already installed the game on two computers and now want to install it on a third in which case you'll need to first unlicense it from one of the first two computers you installed it on.

Note that as of this writing your PC license is for PCs only. The licensing system used for PCs and the one used for macs and linux are not interoperable. This may change in the future (possibly when the issues with the latter system become exceedingly rare), but don't count on it happening any time soon. So for now, if you want to play OOTP on a PC and a mac (or linux) then you'll unfortunately have to purchase a license for each. Or, just decide which computer you'll want to play it on the most and just purchase a license for that computer.

Options

Below are a number of ways to unlicense the game. Which ways work depend on your Windows version and configuration. I recommend trying option c first.
  1. Start Menu Unlicense Shortcut - for many us this simply doesn't work, but if it does for you then it's probably the simplest way to unlicense
  2. Control Panel eLicense Control - again, it doesn't work for many of us, but it's something to try
  3. Right-Clicking the .exe - this is probably one of the surest manual ways, but it may be difficult for some to find their exe file
  4. Create An Unlicense Shortcut - it's a bit of a bother, but it should work
  5. Contact eLicense - if you don't mind waiting a few days (or less, they're usually pretty fast), then this will work

Instructions:

Once you do one of options a through d below, an unlicense screen should appear. From there, just click on the "Unlicense" button to uninstall your license.
  1. Start Menu Unlicense Shortcut - Click the start menu button and select All Programs > Out of the Park Developments > OOTP Baseball 10 > Tools > Unlicense OOTP10.
  2. Control Panel eLicense Control - Click the start menu button and select "Control Panel". Find "eLicense Control" which may be in "Additional Options". Open the folder called Out of the Park Developments GmBH & Co. KG. Right-click on the OOTP Developments game you wish to unlicense, and select "Unlicense".
  3. Right-Clicking the .exe - Go to where you installed the game. The default location for you was probably "C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10". In that folder, right-click on the ootp10.exe file and select "eLicense Control" and then "Unlicense".
  4. Create An Unlicense Shortcut - Go to where you installed the game. The default location for you was probably "C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10". In that folder, right-click on the ootp10.exe file and select "Properties". Append " -unlicense" (without those extra quotation marks) to the end of the target field so that it reads something like:

    Quote:
    "C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10\ootp10.exe" -unlicense
Now double-click on that shortcut. To use it again, rename it something like "Unlicense OOTP10" and save it somewhere. The reason why this shortcut should work whereas the one from option A probably doesn't is because the -unlicense is outside of the quotation marks, not inside.
  5. Contact eLicense - Email them at support@elicense.com. Tell them the game and version of it you purchased, the name or email it was purchased under, and, if you can, your order ID (it should start with "VT-"; it was included in an email to you when you purchased the game).

If you think you see a way to improve these instructions, please post your tip below.

If you see someone with a Windows unlicensing question that you think this will help them with, please direct them here.

A number of different people have pointed out these solutions over the years. I'm just collecting the info in one sticky.
