Slow loading times

Okay so many of us when opening up one of my leagues that I commish or even switching between leagues it takes a LONG time to open up. What could be causing this and what could I do as a commish to speed that up?

The file is roughly 70 MB

Lots of teams, lots of minor leagues, lots of players and lots of history cause that.

One thing you can try is deleting the 'messages.dat' file once a year. It clears out all the messages and past news articles, often a cause of slow loading as well.

EDIT: OOPS! wrong file to delete! messages.dat is the one!

Can't find a news.dat file. I just deleted the messages from the file...

I've also found it helps to delete all of the below folders from the /html directory prior to uploading the League File (obviously, you need to upload the reports for that sim before you delete these files each time)......

/coaches
/history
/images
/leagues
/players
/teams

All of these are completely rebuild every time you "Create HTML reports", so you don't lose anything. Since these are only for the HTML reports, they will be included on your website for the owners to see and are not mandatory pieces of the in-game interface.

The only potential downside is when an owner opens a player in-game, the picture that shows up will be from their local computer instead of the same one that's on the website reports - most owners seem to almost unanimously prefer this sacrifice rather than suffering through huge league file sizes and load times.

If you use third party uploaders/zip utilities and don't have the game do it for you, then you will see this occur where a large amount of past files are constantly uploaded every sim, causing the league file to overbloat.

If you upload from within the game, it keeps track of the last upload time and in the future only includes images/etc that have been updated since the last upload time.

A possible trick to reduce your league file size


Not sure if this is causing Eddie's slow load time though. I've seen occasions that the league file takes forever to load if it is missing certain things and has to rebuild it at load time. Not sure if that is your problem either though, just making random guesses.
