OOTP Developments
|
OK, so we have a thread discussing new features for OOTP 11. This thread is similar, but we're curious to hear in this thread ONLY features that you think would be worthy of being mentioned on the "back of the box."

That one should be number one on the list.

Real-time Player/Ball movement represented on the field. See your fielders as well as the opposition's defensive positioning before the pitch.
NEW! Ability to create custom player announcements with the use of a microphone. Kind of the things I would like to see on the back of a box. Also, The ability to be able to actually see the back of the box on shelves by opening day this year.

We would have to get to that point first and someone will always say there is a bug somewhere. The game will never be perfect for each and every person.

I'm not a historical player, but I recognize how important that is to the people who do play historical.
It would be an awesome selling point if I was not an OOTP player prior to OOTP 11 to see the back of the box and know that I could start the game up, pitch with Randy Johnson, and know that I could use his devastating slider. |

A well built UI can go a long way to making it easier to understand.

Robustness of the engine that we have now (customizable world files like nations.txt, cities.txt, names.txt) including facegen and all the new fangled AI and player complexity...
But go back to the old interface. The simple, solid controls and the solid look that the game's UI once had. We love the behind the scenes stuff that makes the game better now. But we also really loved how the game "felt" before. And how easy it was to use for the GM's. The commissioner, customization, and robust options are awesome...but keep it in the background. I know this can't be put "on the back of the box" but its my biggest wish as a commissioner, league creator that is seeing a decline in GM's.

6.5 was a beautiful UI. I know there will be more menu options needed to support all the new options. But it was sleek, simple and very fun to use. Since then, I've felt like I'm in a maze. So many places to click. Everything is so small. I never know if I'm going to get a "software" player page or an html player page. I'm fighting against the UI half the time and it isn't very responsive. There is a delay as it tries to switch between overly complex pages. It almost feels like the UI is confused too.
My brain gets in a jumble, which is ok but that should only happen when I'm doing complex commissioner type stuff...not when I'm wanting to quickly see my AA bench player's ratings in an online league I'm in. Last edited by Goody; 10-04-2009 at 08:15 PM. |

well, as a guy going from OOTP 6.5 to X, my opinion is that X looks much, much better than 6.5, but you do bring up valid points as far as the lagginess and overcomplexity

And I'm going to go out on a limb here and say your loyal fan base that has been around since 6.5 would even wait longer for the next version if it meant going back to a more simple and solid UI.
Edit: I'm not sure exactly what this would entail. I think a lot of it could be quite simple fixes. Like making the important stuff big (ratings, talent) and the other stuff smaller. I find myself searching for stuff on the page a lot, and clicking between menus that seem to be overly complex. Put more on one page so less menus are needed, but make the secondary stuff small and the major stuff bigger. Make the basics stand out. Less sub menus on the same page as the main menus. Or maybe separate them more....by not having them right below the main menus but instead down the side or something. Last edited by Goody; 10-04-2009 at 08:35 PM. |
