Playoff roster

It seems to be a discussion in the league I'm in that feels it's okay to bring up minor league guys for the playoffs because it shows off their overall depth as a team. Anyhow, how hard would it be for OOTP to take in effect the actual playoff roster rule of having to be on the roster by a certain date? I believe in the MLB it's Aug. 31st.

When the playoffs start, participating teams have to cut their rosters down to 25 players again. So this is a moot point. I doubt that these GMs are going to use marginal minor leaguers on their 25-man playoff rosters.

I understand you have to cut it down, however, I think you should not be able to include anyone that was not on the roster by August 31st. I just wonder how hard it would be to code this into the game. I'm taking the conversation off of the online league and just in general now.

Isn't the rule that you can include a guy that was on the roster after August 31 if you have to put someone on the DL?

I think that's how Francisco Rodriguez ended up on the 2002 Angels postseason roster.

And then of course there was the 2006 ALCS when the A's called up a guy from AA because Mark Ellis broke his thumb (or finger?). Guy never played in the majors regular season but played in the ALCS.

Yes, OOTP does not as yet model the real-world post-season roster rules. But it should at some point.

The thumbnail version of the post-season roster rules:

The pool of eligible players is made up of all those players who were on either the active roster or disabled list as of August 31st. So, for example, if you had four players on the DL on Aug. 31, you have a total of 29 players eligible for the post-season (the 25-man roster plus the 4 on the DL). Any player of that eligible pool who is injured at the time the post-season begins and unable to play may be replaced by any player from the minors provided that player was a member of the organization from August 31st to the end of the season. The minor league player need not be on the 40-man roster (though he would have to be added to it in order to play).

Before each post-season series begins, the club determines which 25 of the total number of playoff eligible players it wishes to activate for that series. It can choose a different combination of 25 players to use in the next series. A player injured during the course of a series can be replaced, however the injured player is then ineligible to return for the rest of the post-season.
