position change between SP and MR

tinkering with OOTP I realized that when i switched one of my starting pitcher's position to MR his had a slight increase in his stuff rating against righties. A few questions:

1.Does this mean he got better or does the game just rate SP and MRs differently?

2.Does his set role influence how he produces? If I have his position as a MR but have him in my rotation will this effect him any way?

thanks

I think it is because a SP needs to have more good pitches to be effective over the course of a game. A middle reliever doesn't face as many batters and can rely on mixing it up less. So, the pitcher didn't improve, but is more effective in his new role. He will also tire faster too (can't throw as many pitches per appearance).

A player with 2 pitches (except when one is a knuckleball) will have better stuff when listed as a MR. He did get "better", because he makes for a better reliever than a starter with only 2 pitches.

I believe the set role AND the role he's playing affect him. Doing what you're doing (position as MR and having him as a SP) I believe also affects stamina. Not only do they perform like they have their SP ratings, but they also take a slight stamina drop as well.

...or basically what robc just said in the post above while I was typing this

Old thread to bring up but...

With this "stuff" bump, does the software know the role your actually using them in?

ie. I have a pitcher who is a starter but gets a 2 point ratings bump if listed as a MR. If I change his position to MR but continue to use him in the rotation, does the software "see" through this and not grant the stuff bonus or does it just look at the listed position? If I do this (list as MR) will the player use their 3rd and higher pitches less due to the "less incentive to mix other pitches" mentioned in the manual?

u change him from sp to mr then continue to use him in the rotation the game see him as a mr and will limit his number of innings pitched and he will be used in the way a mr is used pitch wise . u could change his stratagy to keep him in longer and that may work to keep him in the game longer but normally mrs only go for a few innings so making a sp amr and using him inthe rotation isnt a good ting unless u have a good bulpen or change the players stratagy to keep him in untill he pitches so many pitches or innings
