This spring training I took third baseman Ron Cey and played him at first base about 90% of the time during spring training. He went from No Rating to a 7 Rating at the end of the spring training. It went pretty well ... I'm not sure if having solid infield ratings from playing third base accelerated his development. I haven't tried converting a outfielder to first base this way before ... if I did I would try to convert the outfielder that has the best existing infield arm/error/range ratings (found under the player's ratings tab) or one that already has ratings at 2B, 3B or SS. |

yeah this is 1 of the best ways to do it...they say it takes about 25 games to get a respectable rating if 1 doesnt already exist...I have been "teaching" my LF 1B for 6 games so far he has 1 rating after having no rating at all. Since i use him more in LF still I havent switched his position, nut Carlton has it right.

Players seem to learn a new position at different speeds. Some learn quickly and while others learn slowly. I suspect how quickly a player learns a new position is related to his intelligence and work ethic ratings as well as age.

Thanks for your ideals... I went ahead and changed two of's by going to editor and putting in 200 beside 1B. Is that the correct way? Each player showed a 2 beside 1B... What should I do now? Just so you know, I tried to change depth chart but computer manager switched it right back before the next game (I play strickly as GM)...

I've found that the errors in just letting a player pick up the position aren't too horrendous. Alternatively, you could enter a lower figure instead of 200, as something of a compromise.

I might move Hector Rodriguez to 1b 'next' spring in my game. He's not really declining in terms of OF defense, and he is a LF (rated 87/100), but it probably wouldn't hurt to teach, or try to teach, him 1b, would it? Just in case?

while I did redo a players stats so he would perform more to how he idd on past games, I like having players learn new position on their own....I have a 15 game lead with 39 games left in 1 of my leagues. My SS is learning 3B better, my LF continues to learn 1B in a platoon, My 2B is learning SS. It will give me great depth when I play in the World Series this yr.

One other useful bit of information. If a player doesn't play at his secondary or third backup position, it appears his positional rating will decline. So if you spend all that time building up a secondary positional rating at third base for your first basemen, you should use him there from time to time or his hard earned 3rd base positional rating will begin to disappear. Late in the seaon or blow out games are a good time to use some of the secondary positional ratings.

I happened to notice one, two and three point losses over a couple months for some players. I am fairly certain they are players that haven't played those specific positions in awhile. I do a print screen now of the ML and AAA rosters for pitching, fielding, position and batting at the beginning of the season. I have been comparing the differences once a month. Lots of little changes going on including the positional changes. Changes I would never have noticed if I didn't do the season start print screen.

I was just reading the whole thread again... I agree with redmarkyankees... It is a cheat. I will use the process shown by AESP_pres going forward. Little bit of knowledge really helps.
