AI Pitcher Issues
I am currently in the third season running my solo league. The year is now 2012. I have noticed a big change in how the AI is handling opposing starting pitchers. When before, I thought the AI was too quick to pull the trigger and bring in relievers, I now find it quite common for the opposing pitcher to be throwing 125,130, even 140+ pitches in games and still showing ok for fatigue. None of the games are tight or blow outs, no potential shutout or no-hitter but the AI keeps sending these guys out to the mound as the pitch counts pile up. I don't have raw data but in previous years the pitch counts would be in the 105 to 115 range unless the pitcher was getting shelled. Nothing changed from the previous year so what could be causing this excessive usage?
On a minor side note, this has bothered me from previous seasons but several of the AI controlled teams have relief pitchers with 90+ appearances in a 162-game season and I found at least one guy with 101 appearances. These are not HOF quality pitchers just your run of the mill relievers. Is there a setting that would limit the amount of games the AI uses relief pitchers? |

If it were one team, I'd say it was the manager settings. I had 1 particular manager that threw 3 of his starters at 270+ innings. One guy averaged 8 2/3 per start. I think the rest of his pitchers must've been injured. However, if everyone is doing it, I think that maybe it's the game settings instead. If all else fails return to default.

Double check to make sure global AI strategy for pitcher is set to OFTEN or VERY OFTEN. Also, make sure the Pitcher Stamina in the global AI strategy is set to 1.00. There have been various reports of this number changing (to 2.00, for example) which would cause exactly what you are seeing. The added pic should help show where I am talking about for the settings in question.
