Question about stats after league contraction

I'm currently doing the "sim 25 years and delete" thing. Creation mods and league settings set at 1871 for the whole 25 years.

For league I'm wanting to do my "National Association" is huge. So I understand there will be a great deal of variance between the best and worst players in the league. So I'm not bothered by seeing home run champs with 12 HR in 24 games or pitchers striking out over 100 in the same number of starts as I go through this initial sim.

What I'm wondering is what happens when I contract this association when I go to my "National League"? My NL with be about 1/10 the size of my NA. Will the stars continue to perform at the levels established in the NA, or will the equalization of talent between the clubs return the league leaders to something closer to 'real' totals?
