Historical Replay Bug (I think)

So I'm simulating a historical replay starting in 1871 to be continued during present day. I stopped at a random year (1969) and tried searching for famous baseball players' records, but none of them were there! I checked BaseballReference for some of the names featured in the news, and none of them were there. Some famous players are there (Cap Anson, for instance) but they are few. How has my simulation spawned hundreds of fictional players?

Are you sure you had it set to import historical players as you progress through the game? That's the first thing I can think of that might be the cause.
