OOTP Online Leagues.
When did they take a down turn in the respect commissioners give GM's and vice versa, I've been playing OOTP going on 7 years now and it's only recently I've taken notice of the amount of backbiting that seems to take place in leagues. Now I'm not saying that all leagues are like this in fact the majority are well run and well respected but imo the lack of respect is creeping into more and more leagues than there was when I first started to play in online leagues, there was a time you used to have an argument with someone in a league dust yourself off, shake hands and get on with having fun but now it seems as though some people have more fun in having arguments than playing the game.
I also get the feeling some people just want to wreck leagues as though they get fun out of it just like say an hacker gets fun out of destroying a website, if your in a league and are about to have an argument or are trying to destroy a league remember it's just a game and should be fun and not for boosting ego's or having petty squabbles. Maybe it's the times we live in but surely things shouldn't change so much (for the worse) in just a short period of time. |

Am lucky to have three solid commish's & three groups of solid GM's in the online leagues I play in. But have heard some horror stories as well. Don't think it is just OOTP players though, I recently stopped playing Front Office Football (on an lack of interest and behavioural front). Will always see idiots in every game, just have to be lucky (and miss them) and ignore them. |

I agree, just the nature of the beast that is the internet. Wish there was a way to screen people better. I've also recently complained of the number of GMs and potential GMs who for whatever reason can't send and email and quit a league, I've had a half dozen+ in the MTBL who just stop existing in the league without as much as a forum post or email saying they are quitting the league. Makes no sense from grown adults.

Agreed to all of the above. It's not the reason why I've taken a break from the online league world (lack of time has taken care of that), but when you have folks getting to that stage well....it's probably best to move on. Best leagues that I've been in were the ones that the commishs were able to reign in and try to deal out level headed takes on the situation. Sort of like babysitting children some days.

The CBL as an opening, I'd give that league a seal of approval.

Any online league that has been running for a while at some point gets a "character" or "characters" in it that can stir up this type of thing. Some people just enjoy coming across online leagues as a "tough guy". Many commissioners (myself included) try to do the best we can to weed out those type of people and not let them join a league, but it is tough to know who those people are until too late.
Most leagues that are run well can usually last through a disruptive force as long as the Commissioner takes some type of decisive action for the best of the league. Sometimes cutting off that cancer can help save the patient so to speak.

My advice...take lots of time to look at a league before you join it, and then join full-force. I generally don't play in more than one league at a time because I pick worthy leagues and focus all my effort on it. It's better that way.
