Minor Leagues when to add

Ok, I am wanting to start in 1871. I figure there is no need for even one level of the minor leagues at that point. At what years or time frames would be good to slowly add a level of the minors assuming I am going to keep the AA going and rename it the AL in 1901. Fake players are cool, however i don't want an inane amount of fake players just to fill the minors up and i do plan on using the gambo/spritze database.

Your mileage may vary on this . . .

What I did was keep an eye on the size of the reserve roster and added a ML when that number got to be around 25 for most teams. I seem to remember that 1909 or 1910 was usually the year for me.


Added notes -

If you are actively GMing one or more of the teams, I found that you had to use the 'Have AI set up entire organization' pick (or whatever that button is offically called) to get the players off the reserve roster and onto the minor league team. This had the side effect of adding some players to my 40 man roster that I didn't really want there.

You have to be in the preseason to add a minor league. Actually, I find it a good idea to get to the preseason before any major game play fiddle I do. That might just be me.

I have used the orig PCL teams from the start in 1871...1st 2 sns there wasnt much more then 5-10 players on the team , now in 1902ish I cut 3-7 players each OD to keep my AAA roster at 30. So its up to you when you want to add a minor leagues...AESP I think had 3 levels in 1871, not sure,
