Union League Baseball: Las Vegas Vipers Open

The ULB is looking for a new owner for the Vancouver Canucks! you can email me at ulbcommishgmail.com!

We're a part of an active community over at simcentral.net and the ULB has been active for just about a year in real life. We started in 1995 as a competing league with the MLB. We'll be heading into the 1999 offseason soon, so it would be a good time to join. We use Statslab and run sims during the regular season on MON/WED/FRI/SUN. During the offseason it'll be run everyday. All prospects are for the most part real life players who were drafted by the MLB, but for whatever reason never made it, with actual MLB players peppered in for good measure.

I'm looking for members who will be active both in the league and on the forums. We are good with both newbies and veterans. Most of us have been playing OOTP Online for almost a decade now, IIRC. If you sign up at simcentral.net, let me know your username, and I'll activate your account.

Here's some links to help you in your decision.

We also have an IRC Channel at irc.simcentral.net #bbsc

Have also had Vancouver open up. I just want to encourage anyone looking for a league that this is a great community over at simcentral.net and that we've been doing online leagues forever. We've skipped OOTP12, but will consider moving to OOTP13 when it comes out.

The ULB is my brainchild, and we're getting into a great era of baseball right now. With the addition of the ULB, history has changed, and our rival is undergoing changes, such as Bud Selig getting the boot and being replaced by George W. Bush as commissioner. (Hint: He wants to crush the ULB.) Our Commissioner, Fay Vincent, is currently in negotiations with the ULBPA. We'll be working to ratify a new labor deal this offseason, and hopefully nothing will go wrong. Results thus far have been amicable between Vincent and ULBPA reps. But that could change.

Anyway, here's some info on the two openings. I'm hoping they won't last long on the market. PM me here if you are interested, and I'll get back to you.

Vancouver's a great team, with the best pitcher in the ULB by a mile, mega superstar Mike Mussina. Also an up and coming Ichiro, John Olerud and Ivan Rodriguez. They won the Union Cup in 1995 and 1996, and lost it in 1997. They had a rough season last year, but you simply can't count them out.

Las Vegas is a little rough around the edges, but with the offseason set to start up TONIGHT, they could get better very quickly. They are anchored by Roberto Alomar and David Wells and have talent coming up the pipeline.

As a sidenote, if the ULB isn't your cup of tea, we have two other leagues over at simcentral.net, all on OOTP11.

Update/Available Teams:

Vancouver Canucks

At 60-49 currently, the Canucks sit just 2 games back in the Players League West, behind the San Jose Jedi. SP Mike Mussina has returned, and is pitching great. The team also features SP Russ Ortiz, MR David Cone, CL Trever Miller, C Ivan Rodriguez, 1B Ed Renteria, 1B John "Hulkeruld" Oreruld, DH David Justice, SS Omar Vizquel, LF Darryl Brinkley (2nd overall pick in the Inaugral 1995 draft) and a young superstar named Ichiro Suzuki. Fun right?

San Antonio Wolves/St. Louis Direwolves

The Wolves are a team in transition. Having just announced that they are abandoning San Antonio to move to St. Louis next season, fans have turned on the team. At 48-61 and mired in the basement of the Federal League West, the team will likely be hoping to sign some big names next season. They have a lot of young talented players coming up, and things should be starting to come together soon. (Or you could blow them up!) Names you'll recognize: 1B Paul Konerko (2nd overall pick in 1997), 3B Don Mattingly, CF Andruw Jones (1st overall pick in 1996) and a few you won't (probally!) 2B Mike Peeples (5th overall pick in the 1995 Inaugral Draft) SS 3B Enrique Aguilar (32nd overall pick in 1995) and some prized prospects like SS Christos Tsocanos (7th Pick in the 1998 Draft) SS Derek Baker (3rd round pick in 1996), and SP Yan LaChapelle. (2nd Round pick in 1996, just called up) In short, the Wolves probally need some more pitching help, and maybe an outfielder (or two) They have the 5th best system in the ULB.

We'll be moving to ootp13, so even though for now we're sticking with 11, it'll only be for the rest of this season.

San Antonio is taken!

Why does no one want Vancouver? Can I get some Canucks in here?
