OOTP 13 Career Progress Thread

I made this same type of thread for OOTP 12 and it got a lot of replies.. So here we go for OOTP 13.

This thread is for users who do not have time to write full dynasty reports but like to write and tell others about their current OOTP career. Please feel free to write and update as much as you want about your teams because I love reading about how other careers are going!

I've been out of OOTP fopr a couple of years so I started a test save with the Yankees to get a feel before I started my Blue Jays Dynasty.

After 6 games, I'm sitting at a very average 3-3. My entire lineup has started off miserably as my team BA is .218. A-Rod has 1 hit in 6 games. To make matters worse, Granderson broke his hand and is out for 4 months so I can already see where this is heading. I just hope Cano, A-Rod, and Ibanez find their stoke soon. Teixeira though has hit 2 homers, walking lots, and getting on base and Russell Martin has 6 RBI's. I find that the batters are striking out far too much and need to change that.

My pitching staff has been so-so as well. Sabathia has given up 4 runs in each of his 2 starts 1-1. Nova and Kuroda have been solid while Hughes and Garcia have had horrid first starts.

Getting ready for the 3-gamer with the Angels. I'm hoping that my lineup will break out and score some runs.

My approach with this team is to continue to develop through the farm system and shed payroll. I know the Yankees can sign anyone, but I really want to develop the next Jeter, Bernie Williams, Posada, Rivera crop before augmenting with signings

My good so far - the bullpen. Robertson, Soriano, and Rivera have been lights out.

I have a fictional game in 2036. Its based in the US and I have been in control of 3 teams over my career.

I am currently setting up a new part to the league. I am creating a Canadian league and will have the winner of the US League and winner of Canadian league meet in a best of 7 series to determine best team in North America. They will each play out their own 162 game seasons and then meet in November after their respective playoffs are done.

2012 quickstart with the Padres. Sitting at 35-44 at the end of June, and getting ready to trade anyone I can near free agency, but then I hit a HOT run. I have won 14 of 15 games in July (almost all by 1 run), and am at 49-45 and only 2 games back of the Giants. Alonso and Stauffer have been really good for me.

Edit: 3 more wins since then, and I am at #1 in the Power Rankings. All this with Guzman, Venable, and Hudson out, and Maybin out for part of the time. No Huston Street all year either.

One more edit: My winning streak ended up at 15 before I lost, the loss put me at 55-46

Did you make a difference in talent between the leagues or no?

2011 MLB Fantasy draft league starting with OOTP 11. I was first and drafted Albert Pujols. All histories are erased.

I am now in 2019 and have made the playoffs 3-4 times and just lost to the Orioles in the World Series last season. Pujols has been a beast, but is on the decline and his contract is up, so I doubt I'll give him another 5 years, $28 million like he's asking. I could see him going to the AL next season so he can DH, his fielding rating is now a 3 (1-10 scale) and has made more errors this season than the past 3.

70 games into 2019 and we lead the Pirates and Reds by 1 game. I thought we had a fantasic draft.

Would love to win the WS on Pooters last season with the Cardinals!

So for my game, should I allow Free Agents to change leagues. So like go from US league to Canadian league? Or not? Thoughts?

I wouldn't so that the leagues stay pure to their own Country.

Assuming that you are not allowing foreigners in the respective league.

My league has 12 international leagues with roughly 120 teams spread across Europe. Players hit FA after two years and can be signed by the "masters" league, where the best players from all the smaller leagues play each other. In the masters league, players only enter through FA, and all contracts are final- there is no trading. It's an incredibly different way to play because you can't save yourself from bad decisions by trading an unwanted player. At the same time, you pinch pennies every offseason to try and acquire your next core player.

I'm in season 1, and I'm 62-26 but only holding a three game lead in my division (there are no wild cards). Plus I can't acquire that next piece, so if players struggle I have to shuffle players to the minors and back.

One solo league that I've been running since OOTP11 is the Union Baseball Alliance. Started in 1900 with 16 teams, it's basically an alternative history of the MLB. The two leagues are Metropolitan League, named because all five boroughs of NYC are represented, and Western League, started with teams east of the 13 colonies and west of the Mississippi River. The UBA has been slowly creeping west. A 16 team Pacific Coast League exists, but originally as an independent AAA league due to the constraints of the OOTP11 league structure (pre-associations). I have been GM of the Brooklyn Dodgers since the league's inception.

The two best players in league history are Hall of Famers Ed Emery, who spent most of his time with the Cincinnati Reds, and Billy Parker, who spent his entire 16 year career with the Staten Island Knicks.

Ed Emery - 626 GS, 306-282, 1864 K's, 2.46 ERA, 779.7 VORP
Billy Parker - 1847 G, .342/.380/.409, 22 HR, 1019 RBI, 487.1 VORP

At the end of the 1923 season, the pics below will show the Dodgers History and the teams set to battle it out in 1924.

Another solo league I've been running since OOTP11 is the Western America Baseball Association. The 36 team league has two subleagues, the Cascadia league, named for spanning the Pacific ocean to the Rocky Mountains, and the Rockies League, named for spanning the Rocky Mountains to the Mississippi River. The league was started in 2010 with 32 teams. The 2023 season just wrapped up. I've been the GM of the Seattle Rainiers since the leagues inception.

The best players in league history thus far are Hall of Famers Curt Summers, who split his career between the Seattle Rainiers and the Eugene Emeralds, and Luis Perez, who spent most of his career with the Boise Hawks.

Curt Summers - 1967 G, 75 HR, 731 RBI, .319/.450/.432, 693.5 VORP
Luis Perez - 983 G, 65-63, 508 SV, 1217 K's, 2.71 ERA, 301.6 VORP

The pics below show the Rainers history through 2023 and the teams getting ready for the 2024 season.

20 games into my random debut historical replay, 1st round pick 20 yr old phenom Rogers Hornsby is hitting .200 with 1 extra base hit and has been benched in favor Abraham Nunez, who has been swinging a hot stick.

I'm in 2016, year 6, of my MLB Quickstart that I started on OOTP 12.

I'm with the Atlanta Braves. I've put up seasons of 90-72, 109-53, 110-52, 106-56, 110-52, and I'm currently 84-22. My team is having an absolutely monster year, with nearly no changes. I've won the division each season, but never won the World Series.

I've got trading on hard and I'd think some contracts would come to a head soon, I don't think I can keep winning at this rate.

My fictional Marlins in a long-running league (year 2042) are off to a 33-17 start... but our injuries are starting to pile up, plus we've played 30 of 50 at home and have built this good start totally on being great at home. So I'm worried this will not continue.

The oddest injury has been to my young 24-year-old major prospect SS who I may have rushed up and who had a rough rookie year in 2041. I started him in AAA in 2042, he dominated, and I pulled him back up. After 10 MLB at-bats, he's out for the season with an "undisclosed injury." It happened on an off day. There was no accompanying article about what the heck happened. This one's left to my imagination. Maybe he had a nervous breakdown like Jimmy Piersall. I haven't checked his "overbearing dad" rating.

Update on my Jays dynasty:

Team is 11-9. I'm playing out my games (well only subs since I let Farrell do everything else). Adam Lind has been a beast hitting 9 homers and 19 Ribbies to start

Bautista has struggled out the gate as well as Lawrie, who's batting .172. I'm finding that when I'm watching/playing out games, my batters strike out a lot.

I've been offered Mike Trumbo for Brett Cecil straight up. Thinking I might do this as Encarnacion has been horrible as well. Decisions Decisions

I'm 4.5 games out of not only the division but 4 games out of the WC's (2 this time) this after going to the WS last season.

Pujols is finally on the decline and has had a horrible year.. plus I have my #3 SP and 2B out for the season.

Ouch that hurts. I'd tell ya things will get better though. I'm beginning to find that playing as an older team is difficult too. The team will decline in time and replacing them becomes a chore. Mind you, with the money they have, signing FA's is pretty easy

Going to play some more of my Yankees save tonight. I have to say that Freddy Garcia is still brutal like he is IRL lol

Yeah, I'm in 2019 and this will be the last year Pujols plays in a Cardinal uniform.. I hope he just retires after the season, but I would assume he could make a decent amount of $$$ as a DH over in the AL.

It's great the game has been challenging for me the past 10 seasons.
