Need help with player development!!!!

I am in the 30th year of my universe as GM of the NY Mets in a league that started as a 2012 startup. Its seems that every high potential pitcher I either draft or sign as a hidden player from my scout pan out nicely and most become Big league roster pieces. Ive had high draft picks become Aces and signees become clutch bullpen arms. And vice versa.

What ive noticed is that while my organization is "pitching a plenty" my positional prospects seem to never pan out. High potential guys go down to half star potential within 2 years. Most of my pieces in my lineup are free agents or prospects I acquired via trade.

My question is what Am i doing wrong? How do I keep the arms a comin and start to generate some strong bats?

Position players are a lot more of a crapshoot in OOTP. Take lots of position players late in the draft and hope one turns out good.

You also can't even read a ton into variable performance from said prospects. So far, I've had a couple of studly high picks become nothing, one prospect I inherited fall down to mediocre before getting a major potential boost, and had two mediocre guys go randomly studly on me, and that's just in the OF!

Honestly, if you're good enough at developing pitching, use it as a tradeable asset for position players. Sure, you want the best of both worlds, but at least you can trade from an area of strength.

Not sure what your scouting settings are, but perhaps your scout is stronger on scouting pitchers than position players?

Agreed on position players.. my first stud was an 11th round pick.

Sorry, I was mixing my scout ratings and coaching ratings. Scouting ratings are only for Majors/Minors/International/Amateurs.

Although, I suppose your scout could just suck at amateur scouting, and/or you're just getting unlucky with talent change randomness.

Scouts can also favour either tools or abilities. If you check the OOTP manual, it will tell you exactly what each one means...

I personally have a scout that highly favours ability and I have had a much better time finding pitchers than hitters for a similar reason as you. Perhaps it's much harder to get a read on position players with a scout who favours ability.... or position players are (as has been mentioned) more of a crap shoot.

See here for the reason why. Telling people to re-seed playoffs since 2012. Telling people to double-check their minor league roster settings in League Setup since 2013.
