Real Players in Fictional League

Can someone tell me how to get real players into a FICTIONAL league? Preferably- to where they enter the league at random points....

The easiest way of doing it is to import them as free agents using the "Import Historical Player(s)" button.

Thank you- and from there..does the game randomly filter them into free agency? Draft? or are they all inserted at a certain point?
The reason I am asking is because I did check that option- but there was not any MLB names within the inaugural draft....but I didnt go any further than that- once I assumed I had dont something wrong....

You can set up the league to import historical players into the amateur draft when you first create the league. Or, if you'd rather have them imported into a current league's draft, follow the instructions in these two posts:

Erase historical player stats

I would like to import historical players without their historical stats. I don't check 'keep selected season's stats in player career stats' so the current year's stats don't show up which is great. I'm in the inaugural season so erasing league history works, but will not be a good option when I do this gain in 20-25 seasons. Is there a way of erasing the history in subsequent season without affecting the whole league? I would prefer not to create a dummy league as a workaround if possible.

I think you can do it by individual player, but this would be a pain if you are importing lots of players. My plan is to import 1-2 every year into my league. I am importing them all at 18 though, so they won't have any history I need to delete...

Just clone the player then delete the original. The clone will be just that, a clone with all of the ratings of the original but no stats or history.

A combination of both ideas may be perfect. Thanks.

This is what I do for all my players whether they are still the same player or i change teh name of the player. This is always the way to go. Sometimes the player will be better or worse then the original but it depends on league settings. Harold Baines in my modern ABF has been a beast. .335 avg 31 HR 112 RBI 21 SB. thru 8 seasons. Jack McDowell (changed to the name of a friend) has never won more then 12 games. In another league Andreas Raht
(Graig Nettles) was the 2004 AL ROTY and 2008 AL MVP. Still plays 4 positions.
