Need help w/ custom league schedule wackiness
So, I just completed my first season in my custom league. But I somehow managed to botch the schedule and would love some help in trying to fix it.
My league is roughly based on MLB. 2 subleagues, 3 divisions per subleague, 5 teams per division = 30 teams. I had set it to be 162 game regular season. But, not only did no team play 162 games, some teams (including the one I'm managing) played fewer games than others. Some teams played 153 total. Others, 151 games. Still others, 150 games. I'll try to attach some images -- sorry if these are huge, can't seem to scale them down -- |

I've dabled with schedules but on a much smaller scale than what you are dealing with but one place you can look to find the error is the report grid shown here:
Attachment 286566 Now, I can't help you much for the season you are currently in but I can give you some solid pointers for going forward. At the begining of the year I generate a fictional schedule during the preseason. I then export the schedule to my desktop in that same menu shown above. Then I open the .lsdl with note pad I then paste in excel in column J (or whatever) thenI simply cut-paste from column J to column A and change the game day. All I have to do is make sure that no team plays two games in one day. I know it will be balanced because it was OOTP generated. I simply cut-pasted in an order that I liked. I don't worry about game times. I change those daily. Once I have the schedule I import it. Then I make a BACK-UP. Then I Sim the season ultra-fast then go here: Attachment 286567 If that is all nice and pretty, I restore from my back-up and proceed.

Many thanks for the detailed reply.
I guess I'm scratching my head a bit about how complicated this is. I kind of figured, if I set the schedule in the league creation to 162 games... um, why can't ootp generate that for me without having to do all sorts of edits via Excel? I ran the Schedule - Report: Evaluation for the season that just took place and got the following. As I can now see, in that middle column under "Regular / Total", the number of games scheduled for all the teams in the league was definitely not 162 games, and definitely not even the same number of games for every team. I'm just kind of shocked by this. I feel like it shouldn't be possible for the game to botch the schedule like this, and shouldn't be so complicated to have to edit it --- |

The reason you have a problem is that you have a 15/15 league but do not have interleague play. That means there are two teams every day that don't have an opponent. The uneven distribution of the total games may be a result of different divisional matchups. You should use GMO's schedules found here

If there were a palm-smacking-self-in-forehead emoticon, I'd use it here. That's so logical I never would have thought of it. Thank you. If I just tick off the interleague play box, I suppose that will solve the problem? (I'm a little intimidated by GMO's schedules...) |

Dont be. Allow you have to do is import them with one click. Done.
Always have a couple little test leagues for checking stuff out. Practice there and once you get it then you do it to your keeper-league. Also...Lot's of back-ups. Especially before and after major changes. This way if you make a change that you aare not happy with you can go to a back-up and not have to start all over again.
