What a jerk move this is

yea that's nice sign a 6.2 million dollar deal then retire about 10 days later. Will the blue jays have to pay him that money now? He didnt even bother changing his uniform. Laughing all the way to the bank.

IIRC retiring voids the rest of the contract.

Ha, if anyone would, it's A.J. But yes, I believe retiring does in fact void the contract. Still though...

Sounds like something he might do. I'm more interested in why the Phillies threw $51.2 million at a MR.

Since the money is not going to be paid out in OOTP or in real life, I don't really consider this a jerk move except that it might have hurt the teams chances at getting another catcher. Its quite possible his heart wasn't in it anymore or he doesn't want another summer of missing his kids growing up or something like that.

Maybe a 38-year deal?

They gave him a 4 year, $12.8 million deal, paying him like a top-notch closer.

They're likely planning on using him as a closer. If his previous team had him as a MR, I believe the game still calls him as such in news stories until another team changes his position.

In my fictional OOTP game, I signed a free agent MR to a $6.5m/yr deal. I plugged him into my starting rotation and he is currently third in the entire league in WAR.

AJ for Governor? Do I smell another 'punch AJ' campaign?

I am a AJ fan and I can't think of anyone who would vote for him. There have been other players to sign with anew team just to retire recently right? I can't think of any that were making major $$.

Yeah, he's definitely not getting paid. No harm, no foul there. But I just think it's funny that he had signed with the only Canadian team in MLB, which makes the quotes from his manager make no sense.

"'He's has exactly the kind of leadership skills this state needs.'" Ignoring the grammar issue at the beginning, I think someone needs to tell John Gibbons that Toronto isn't a state.

As for the picture, retiring resets his picture to the team he had the most "impact" with. Not sure how that's calculated.

Jerk move on team management? I have one guy Randy Bass has signed 3 long term contract with 3 teams for well over 1 mil a season each time and after a season or one case 2/3 of season he keeps getting realesed. He signs and gets released. Why? They guy is filthy rich because they owe him all that money right?
