Where Should I Base My Fictional Game?

I am tossing around the idea of a new OOTP14 fictional game. The only catch is, I'm not sure where to base the league. I figure I will start with 16 teams and as I sim to get history for the league, I will slowly expand to 24 teams.

The plan is for me to have no wildcard spots, so it would probably be 2 divisions per league.

So where should I base my league? Please vote and explain why.

It's your game, but I'd do it in Canada, just to change history a bit!

I think you should keep your derned league in your own derned house....

Have the Upstairs and Downstairs Leagues.....you could have a whole division that resides in the Basement!

Kitchen Cookers
Living Room Loungers
etc.

Set up a Culture OOTP League

You'd have to be a fan of Science fiction and particularly Iain Banks to consider this. Set up a league using Culture ships and Orbitals either as teams or possibly as divisions. Because Culture technology is advanced you could have any type of OOTP league with any type of player mix and statistical output. See below for details.

I intend to do this at some point but only when my workload drops.

Banks created The Culture a post scarcity interstellar society that uses sentient AI's to run just about everything. The most powerful "minds" exist as interstellar ships or as the "hub" of an orbital (like a ringworld but not with the sun at the centre).

The extreme power of these minds makes "The Culture" a utopia where biological humanoids and many other species can do as they please whenever they please. Many choose risky pursuits knowing that they can be restored from a backup should they die. Games like OOTP exist in The Culture except they are on a scale we can only dream about. Re-enactments of WWI or the conquests of Rome or some interstellar massacre can be created in a snap. Culture ships can be huge, home to billions of people and they sometimes meet each other or dock at an orbital for cultural exchange

The ship based minds choose their own names and many are humorous. This could make team names fun. See the link.

This may be over the top but you did ask.

Was it CJ who had a Great Lakes league? Play that. Play the Northern league with the Saint Paul Saints and introduce Ila Borders to the game.

All Detroit suburbs. Warren Warriors, Royal Oak Royals, Flat Rock Rockets, Southfield North Stars, Novi Sixers, Dearborn Muhajedeen ... the possibilities are not quite endless, but there's a there there.

I also have a 12 team canadian league that's Associated with a 12 team Australian league which is cool because they are both commonwealth nations with the Queen of England as head of state

Do an alternate history where baseball is invented in California and slowly expands eastward.

How about a Cape Cod Baseball League that has evolved beyond being just a summer league?

Nice. I just started reading Consider Phlebas a couple of weeks ago. Hope to get through all the books as long as I keep liking them (love it so far).

That's a rough book. His only rougher one IMO is Look To Windward, which really pulls at your emotions. IMO his best is Excession.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I agree with the "do what interests you" crowd. You have to be really into the league, otherwise it is just pushing Sim This Week or 11111111111111 a lot. Although....

Other - Create a fictional country and place the fictional league there. It's a blast and in some ways more immersive.
