Exclamation OOTP 15 update #5 (build 15.5.25) is available now!

Hey guys,

We have just officially released the 5th update for OOTP 15, version number 15.5.25. It is a maintenance release which fixes reported problems and also improves the 3D mode (the PC version now supports anti-aliasing, for example) and Facegen on the Mac.

Important: This update is only for OOTP 15 versions which were purchased directly from us or resellers who use our version. It is NOT compatible with Steam or the Mac OSX AppStore version! Those updates will be submitted and made available ASAP.

Update Info: To apply the update, simply download the setup file and install it over your current installation. There is no need to uninstall or unlicense your current copy! However, you should quit the game before installing it, of course. Saved games are compatible between different versions.

Download link for PC:
Main server: PC Installer

Download link for Mac:
Main Server: Mac OS X Installer

Download link for Linux:

Main Server: Linux Installer

Here are the improvements / fixes compared to version 15.4:
- Fixed bug which prevented AI teams from offering arbitration to FA eligible players
- Improved Facegen on Mac
- Improved 3D ballflight, including anti-aliasing support on the PC
- Improved trading AI
- Improved play-by-play commentary
- Improved in-game AI in numerous situations
- Fixed several bugs and cosmetic issues

Alright, this update should be the last one this summer. We'll probably have another one during fall which will fix problems that get reported in the meantime

Cheers!
Markus

Thank you, Markus! Does this mean that if we already have a game going that we'll need to start a new one for these enhancements to take effect? Or will they work with a game already in-progress?

You guys rock, and you know it. Thanks!

I have a question that is really just one of curiosity more than anything. When you say you've improved Trade AI or In-Game AI, is there any way for you to quantify or give examples of that?

Like can you say something similar like:

In previous version, AI removed Starting Pitcher in X situation even though %variables A,B,C% indicate they shouldn't have. This has been addressed.

I don't know that it's always that cut-and-dry, but seeing examples of the logic fixes would be really great and VERY interesting to a lot of us.

Thanks again!

Agreed, it would be nice to see more detailed info like that.

Exact details like that are extremely hard to articulate for a lot of reasons, given there are so many league setups and personal configurations, but back to the point. The AI trade changes are basically the first move toward that long-requested tweak addressing the complaint that Normal was too easy and Hard was too hard. The hope is we've moved closer to a middle ground for most league setups.

Whoa! I missed this implication. That would be welcome news, indeed!

Mac Trackpad Issue Resolved?

Thanks folks at OOTP for the update. Does anyone know if the scrolling issue for the Mac trackpad that was introduced in the last patch has been remedied here? I had to rollback to the second last version after downloading the last version because the trackpad scrolling issue made the game unplayable for me. Would like assurance that this has been fixed before downloading again. Thanks to whoever can answer my question.

So, is it recommended if we have previously had trades set to "hard" that we should try "average"?

The trackpad issues were fixed in a previous patch. I haven't downloaded this patch yet, but since it's been out for a few hours and nobody has reported that the problem has returned, you should be fine to download this patch.

There was an upgrade to trading AI? If this was to correct the bug where Tampa Bay sends Price to the Tigers for less than what a lot of other teams should have been offering . . . well you're too late.

I would recommend leaving it set to "hard" and seeing if the AI is a bit more reasonable with this update. That's what I am going to do. I am hoping that the days of not even being willing to offer a 20th round draft pick for a two- or three-star player are over on that setting.

OTOH, "Average" may still be too easy, so I want to see how "hard" is now. It should be tough bargaining on that setting but not a constant rip-off like it has been for a couple of versions now.

I'm getting a CTD when I selected the Show 3D option. It never happened prior to the last couple of beta builds. So, I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem. BTW, I'm running Windows 8.1 (64-bit) on a machine with plenty of muscle. Thanks.

Not to take this off-topic, but this article explains why the deal made sense for the Rays.

On topic, thanks for the continued updates, Markus & Co.!

I tried this patch at work. Only half of the field showed on the 3D display; very slow to respond to game screen configuration changes, then it finally crashed in this condition:

Re-reading the discussion that led to the change, my best guess- and that's all that it is, because Markus actually coded the change -is that the Average or Normal level increased its difficulty more than the Hard lessened its grip. But, as always, time and feedback will tell.
