Minors Roster Limit

Does anyone have a decent idea on what the minors roster limit should be for present day?

I have A-AAA at 25, but then have a ton of players in rookie and SSA.

Official rules from MiLB.com:

Here are the roster limits by league:

Triple-A: International, Pacific Coast — 24 players may be active at one time; 38 players may be under team control.

Double-A: Eastern, Southern, Texas — 24 active; 37 under control.

Class A Advanced: California, Carolina, Florida State — 25 active; 35 under control; no more than two players and one player-coach on active list may have six or more years of prior Minor League service.

Class A: Midwest, South Atlantic — 25 active; 35 under control; no more than two players on active list may have five or more years of prior Minor League service.

Class A Short-Season: New York-Penn, Northwest — 30 active; 35 under control, but only 25 may be in uniform and eligible to play in any given game; no more than three players on the active list may have four or more years of prior Minor League service.

Rookie: Appalachian, Pioneer, Arizona, Gulf Coast leagues — 35 active, but only 30 may be in uniform and eligible to play in any given game; no player may have three or more years of prior Minor League Service.

Rookie: Venezuelan Summer, Dominican Summer — 35 active, but only 30 may be in uniform and eligible to play in any given game; no player may have four or more years of prior Minor League Service.

For OOTP present-day I suggest the following:

AAA - no limit. teams will carry 25 typically, but will have room for rehab assignments without having to shift players. one other advantage is when roster expansion occurs in September the AI won't try to fill up AAA rosters, which it will do if you have a limit.

AA - 30

A - 30

SS A - 30

Rookie - no limit

Summer - no limit

When you say under the team control, do you almost mean like a Secondary roster and an active roster like we get in season?

That is a great idea, thanks. I think I know a lot about OOTP but there is always something more to learn.

That is correct, minor league clubs designate an active roster for each game according to the prescribed limits. At least 10 must be pitchers, although some leagues have an effective date like July 1 for this rule because of injuries and promotions.

Also, remember that there is a limit of 3 rehab players per minor league club. OOTP does not model this restriction.

Also, OOTP does not have ESP (extended spring training) or instructional league, which don't have roster limits or rehab player limits.

This is what it usually is for me in my league, I can fit upto 30 players on any of my minor league rosters but normally stick with 25 for the MLB roster. Except for the rookie and SA teams that is of course. Most of my minor league teams have around 26-27 players on them however.

When I set this up and started playing my first game with these settings, I noticed that my Fort Meyers, GCL team dumped all it's players out of it, and it seems that most if not all of the teams might have emptied out a ROOKIE League team as well.

Is this normal for this game?
These teams now have zero to ten players in them and the league sits idle, playing no games.

Yes, some but not all teams would have done this anyway whether you set the limits or not, according to AI evaluation and other factors. Also, check the rookie league roster for the ML team that finished with the worst record last season and I bet you find tons of catchers. There is a hidden design that keeps catchers in circulation so the minor leagues don't run out of them.

Has the draft happened yet? Has the season started for that rookie league yet? After the draft, they will fill up and by the time the season starts it will be full. Unless you have ghost players on.

I've noticed that the draft signees get sent to my lowest level team, which is a VSL club, so I have to manually send these kids to the "empty" team, keeping a watchful eye on the roster, since their short season starts only a few days after the draft. Don't want to lose games by having an incomplete roster!

This is correct when you control the minor leagues. The AI sends them straight to their playing level when it is in control, but it can't assume where you want them if you are in control so they go to the lowest level. So do minor league free agents.

BTW, if you have an empty team roster and you didn't empty it then the AI is in control.
