I just gotta say, I'm lovin' 3D
I may be the only one feel this way, but even without the animated fielders (although I hope we see them in future versions) it's awesome.
Just to see how the ball comes off the bat adds SO much to the experience: soft line drives, hard liners, scorching ground balls, deep fly balls that come up just short of being home runs. Hell, I've seen popups blown across the field by a stiff wind from left to right. It makes the game much more exciting. It aint perfect: Some of the play-by-play doesn't match and some balls that drop for hits are called outs, but regardless, the physics are amazing, the animation is beautifully done. I wish I could get it to work on my Macbook Pro (nothing but a white screen, anyone else experience this, know a work-a-round?) but it performs flawlessly on my PC. I can't wait to see where this feature looks like in the future. Well done Dev team! |

I agree with you. I wasn't expecting to like it. But it has taken a step forward in v16. Just hoping some of the incongruences can be fixed.

I agree; I didn't think Id like it or use it. I didn't use it in 15, but 16 I am totally using it. I would also love to add more authentic and detailed 3d stadiums would be nice and provide some great aesthetics. I am a visual guy; that would totally help heighten the emersion factor for me!

I've always imagined the final product will be something like the animation in WGT baseball (the pressbox view, NOT the silly view behind the catcher) |

Wish they'd just buy the rights to the old Microleague's/Earl Weaver graphics and update it slightly. While dated, you could see actual 3d ball flight and 3d stadiums. The graphic sequences were a little "canned", but you'd actually see the pitch, ball contact, and where it goes with a 3d ball flight/bouncing towards the fielders. Right now, it just shows where it goes.
If back in the day, those graphics took up the size of a 3 1/2 inch floppy, I'm sure it wouldn't take much to use a similar version these days. Even simple stuff like stealing a base, see the pitch to the catcher and a few animations to show catcher throw to second showing the guy stealing or caught stealing would be nice. While true physics and better graphics would be nice, I don't think we'd mind generic looking players and general sequences . |

I think you are on to something there, I bet with a little tinkering you could get the old Earl Weaver graphics to work. Goto the 6:50 minute mark - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2qdhUNkl7E Here is where you can play Earl Weaver Baseball II - https://archive.org/details/msdos_Ea...seball_II_1991 Last edited by prisonerno6; 04-07-2015 at 04:53 PM. |

I certainly will thank you very much. ) But, then that's not all this game really needs. It needs voice commentary like APBA baseball had or has (are they still around?).
We've always needed another Front Page Sports Baseball series I think. It's the best simulated game with graphics I ever played. At least it was much harder to trade for highly rated players. If I could only find a way to get it to work on XP or better. I can run it one game but it always crashes after one game It won't hold the information for a season anymore without crashing. Hopefull OOTPBB will master this one day. Till then I can wait and pray he works on the trading system and career system as it's all too easy to get the best players off of any team and create a monster team. The stat portion he has down well, it's just trading and career mode that just seems to stay the same year after year. I once made a trade of 10 minor league players (some I got from free agency) and got one well known veteran. If one is persistant and has the time you can get any player you want eventually. ) |

I love it too.. so much I've gone from a simmer to playing out each game.
Those high popups are great, the bounces off the wall, homers into the seats, etc.. well done OOTP team! |

We'll continue to work on 3D. In fact, the next update will introduce better looking 3D ballparks, Jorin & Aurelio added support for some fancy OpenGL features (don't ask me, I'm a monkey when it comes to 3D)
And for OOTP 17 we will have something resembling players running around on the field, hurray! |

I also hope accuracy of the display to actual results continues to be improved. It's a lot better than it was last season, but sometimes you'll still see a grounder to short that looks like a double to right in the new 3D stadiums. |

Ruthian, I created a bug report with about 18 examples of incongruences. I could have added many more. So, they're aware of the problem.

Good to hear. I assumed they were and it's just a difficult thing to pin down (because there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to where and when they happen), but I'm sure they'll get it worked out in time.

I'm also enjoying the 3D. If it ever gets to a similar level as Football Manager, it will likely ruin my life.

My apologies for bringing this thread back to the top, but all I've ever wanted to see is something akin to Action PC Baseball's 2d, in-game action. Once the ball is in play, the player's numbers move to the ball, the ball flight looks great with nice shadows for fly balls and the "players" move around the bases. The ball bounces nicely off outfield walls, etc. Everything is very fluid.
I don't even need animated guys running around the field. The only change I'd make to Action PC's approach is to make the player's numbers bigger and instead of squares, use larger circles. What bothers me about the current OOTP 3D approach is once the ball is hit, everything else seems to disappear. It's just a blank field with a ball flying around, unless I'm doing something wrong? It's not immersive at all in its current state. Thanks, Steve |

As a guy with an older computer, I kinda wish 3D was an add-on, not something included with the game. It just seems to mess up facegen. Thankfully, I've been able to get around it, but I know some other folks haven't been as lucky.
