Help with creating a rival league to MLB
Hello,
So I want to create a sort of Continental League or United League scenario. Ideally, in 1981 for youthful nostalgia reasons but the date doesn't really matter. I know how to add a league and I know how to adjust reputation and I can run test leagues to work on financials because obviously the new league will not have the same financial power/backing as the established MLB.....I will gladly take any input/ideas/help on that aspect though. My real need for help is this: How do I ensure that the new rival league is populated with players who are less than MLB quality? Initially, I would imagine much worse but over time as the league develops and hopefully becomes stronger and begins to steal MLB players (and lose players as well) I want the players to become better and better. I am pretty sure this is possible. I am also pretty sure I will have to manually manipulate things along the way to ensure this growth, which is fine. I just need some direction/advice/help in getting started and how to move forward with this idea. Thank you in advance for any and all help. |

When I started my Endor Baseball League, although it is a fictional historical replay it is also a rival to MLB. Many of the FA who signed who over the hill players and some 1 star scrubs. I set my financials in 1973 ( 2003 start year orig on OOTP 11, then 13 converted to 16 in 2023 now) With league reputation set lower, say 5 and lower financials, many of the sub par players will sign with the new league. Not to say you wont have some 3 star players sign with your CBL. I started the IBL as a new league in my eBL vs MLB universe and the IBL signed Steve Michaels (clone of John Smoltz 2.5 star guy at age 32) to a 1 yr $450 K contract (1963 financials league rep of 4). He was signed around April 20th, so no other ML ( there are 3 others) signed him. Michaels went approx 11-8 4.54 150 IP 120 K. Some other decent players like Yasiel Puig who cant play D anymore was signed in late August (I turned on purchase contracts in June and Puig had his contract purchased by an EBL team in SEP)
So basically i would start with league rep around 5 and finances less then half of MLB at the time, so maybe 1961? While it will update finances yearly, i always manually update at the start of FA each year, since i had issues on 11 or 13.

Thanks Game!
That is great advice. Sorry to harp on this but how do I get the initial crop of players that OOTP will populate the rival league with to be below MLB quality? |

On the league settings/players page for your new league, you can set the player creation modifiers as you wish. See my attachment. This is for my independent Mexican League and yields players typically a little below AAA level. Occasionally one of the players from the Mexican League shows up in my MLB league, as I would hope. Many MLB minor leaguers get signed and play in the Mexican League.
Look at the settings for your existing minor leagues for more sample player creation modifiers. |

Thank you awick!
Sorry again for another question...... After I adjust the modifiers should I delete all the original players that OOTP populated the league with (because that comes before I can make adjustments to the modifiers) and then use the "FILL LEAGUE WITH FICTIONAL PLAYERS" (or something like that) option to get the desired players in place? Thanks again! Last edited by elmwood44; 08-05-2015 at 01:08 PM. |

IF MLB has enough FA let the new league sign FA only or yes delete the 1st group of players.

So for something midway between AAA and MLB, that would be values set to .925 -- or thereabouts, tweaking them as you see fit. If you are using minor leagues you can check your own settings for any level defined in your own game. Look under League Settings/Players, making sure you are tabbed to the league that you are interested in viewing. |

I am doing a similar thing but pre-integration. I've got the Negro league players from the Spritze database. Want to have a 1919 or so Independent league where I can sign Negro league players but also MLB players if they can be enticed to come over (similar to what happened in MEX when guys like Sal Maglie went down there for a time).
My problem is, once I load the database, all the Negro league players (Torriente, Charleston, Beckwith, etc.) are free agents and MLB teams start signing them. How do I keep the MLB teams from signing them? |

wow -- great! I'm going to try that -- thank you! I didn't realize we could control all of those options to that extent.
