Exclamation OOTP 16 Update #8, Version 16.8.38 Released. (Updated 08/25!)

UPDATE 08/25: We just released a hotfix for update #8, the new version number is 16.8.38. It contains a fix relating to deleted leagues, so if in your game you have manually deleted & added leagues, we suggest installing this new update.

Important: This update is only for OOTP 16 versions which were purchased directly from us or resellers who use our version.
It is NOT compatible with the Steam or Mac OSX AppStore version! The Steam update is available via the Steam client tomorrow and the Mac AppStore version is pending review at Apple, which will take some more days.

Hey guys,

We have just released a maintenance update for OOTP 16, version number 16.8.38. It fixes reported issues, here is the changelist for this update:

- Fixed various crashes dealing with deleted leagues
- Fixed in-season wildcard standings if the first subleague has a tie for wildcard spots
- Adjusted players refusing to play for leagues
- Fixed DL notification for minor leaguers
- Fixed several minor bugs + text issues

Update Info: To apply the update, simply download the setup file and install it over your current installation. There is no need to uninstall or unlicense your current copy! However, you should quit the game before installing it, of course. updates always contain all the changes from previous updates. Saved games are compatible between different versions.

Awesome! An unexpected surprise! And just before I was about to start a new league!

Now quick - david limbaugh, find anything that's broken so we can get them to fix it before they move on to OOTP 17 for real this time.

But the big question, is this compatible with prior versions? Basically, as an online league commish, will it be fine if I patch and my league members don't?

We always recommend that everyone be on the same patch just to be sure, but there shouldn't be anything in this patch that screws up online league.

Any changes to the major league quickstart, other than the stuff listed in the roster errors thread?

I'd like OOTP fans to take note of this observation. Three days ago I reported an oddity with Wild Card standings. The next day, OOTP staff posted a sensible answer, admitting to a bug. In the released version today, that bug is fixed. Maybe it was already on their radar, but from where I sit, it is very impressive that a potentially newly identified problem made it into the update stream so quickly.

and I submitted a support ticket about my game pooping the bed after I deleted a league in it. I got an email a day later, confirming the bug and said a patch would be released soon. Very impressive guys!

Thanks for the update!

I'm having a problem installing the update... when I download and click on it to install, it goes past the "Accept terms of agreement" page but when I click to start the install, the window just closes.

Anyone know what's causing the problem? Thanks!

We've moved on to 2016 mode with the rosters. All of the recent roster thread fixes will show up in next year's game.

Please try downloading it again, and try right-click and "run as administrator".

In my online league that I am running sims for, the sim machine is on 16.7.36. Two people updated to 16.8.36 and both are saying after they download the league file that the minor leagues appear messed up. Others in the league still on 16.7.36 are not seeing issues.

Since Steam is about to auto-update a bunch of the GMs, this is gonna be a problem if it's not compatible.

Can OOTP dev team confirm if there is a possible compatibility problem with 16.7.36 and 16.8.37 in regards to minor league structure?

(The last few patches have been a real mess with compatibility, because people buy the game from different platforms, and it is basically impossibly to sync all the GMs to update at the same time.)

Okay, that's good to know, although very disappointing given the earlier comment in the thread saying "there shouldn't be anything in this patch that screws up online league". Why isn't it tested?

So now what?

If I move the sim machine to Patch #8, will the GMs stuck on Patch #7 because they bought from the Apple Store be able to use the league file, or are we stuck?

@ootpbaseball on Twitter recommended to disable Steam auto-updates. Actually, that's not even an option any of us can find.
