Problem with Jim Unknowns
I'm commissioner of a league and often I have players who have Jim Unknowns and need to reload the starter file and that does the trick to eliminate them.
Is there any way I can prevent these Unknowns from occurring ?

is this while a day is in progress?
jim unknowns should only exist while any games are ongoing. if you play a game ot, finishing the day should fix it. there are teams in your game world without enough players and those temporarily fill in. |

the only way to fix it, is to delete them

I do delete the Jim Unknowns but invariably they creep back up every so often. My problem is how do I prevent Unknowns from popping up !

But if we delete Ghost players in the minors then do we fill the rosters with fictional players ? And if we do then how do we prevent the fictional so from reaching the majors ? And after all of this will it in fact end the Jim Unknown issue ?

you will then need to be sure minor league rosters are filled, but as long as your draft (I am assuming this is a historical league) is giving you enough players then that shouldn't be a problem, but if you must yes you can also click on no fictional players to the majors. Run that for a few years and just monitor the minor league rosters. It should work out ok. |

yeah, no worries, they cannot stick around and cannot make the mlb. i have them enabled and have never seen a problem occur - even when i've notice them persisting when they shouldn't. by the next simmed day they've always disappeared.
i wouldn't use the "fill" function, if that is what you are referencing. that will create players of varying talents and potentially cause problems. i'd force the ai to sign minor league contracts to fill their teams. it's probably not the AI-controlled teams that are the culprit, though. even with a good sized draft, if you don't allow need to come into play, you can be short at some positions. think hard before you add rounds to your draft. it will have sometimes serious ramifications on talent distribution after 15-20 years. i use ghost players, because i think the scrubs in the minors are tedious. i don't pay attention to the distribution of college or hs draft picks nor their position much, so i get some shorthanded teams on occasion. if i were worried i'd start dedicating the lower half of the draft to positions and ages of need only. once draft picks are junk, i often let the ai finish my drafts. it's total luck at that point anyway. i'm going to test the AI controlling my ml signings and releases. i'm just afraid thew will release someone of value. if you do this with enough days before the season for contracts to be signed, i would think it will fill up your minor league teams to 25-ish. if i only turn that AI control on for a short time during january-february i don't think it can do too much damage. |

I've been running into this problem as well, and couldn't find a rhyme or reason. Occasionally I'd look in my minor leagues and either my AAA or AA roster would suddenly be filled with Jim Unknowns to max out the roster.
Then I finally figured out a pattern. I play out all my games and have the rest of the major and minor league games sim out while I'm playing. Every time I found a minor league level filled with Jim Unknowns, there was a rained out game for that team the day before. So basically it looked like the game was generating enough Jim Unknowns to field a team, but then forgot to delete them once the game was rained out. I haven't played OOTP 17 yet so I'm curious if this bug is still an issue there. It's only moderately annoying (as others have said - just delete them if it happens), but I'm assuming it would be easy to prevent if the developers were aware of it. |
