How does a player end up with zero position skills?
Not even a fielding position even listed? I get that this guy is legitimately TERRIBLE at playing second base, but shouldn't he at least get some experience credit for having played 2nd for the previous 5 years?
He's definitely one of the worst fielders in the league. Not sure HOW bad in the context of my game because I can't get career fielding stats to show up in any sortable lists, but in the digging I've done, he's ankles and calves lower than anyone else. But still, thousands of innings and not even a 20 at the position? Seems weird. Is that just the game telling me that he's beyond terrible at defense? I've seen a few guys in the minors without any position ratings, but never at the MLB level, and especially never on an NL team. |

Disregard the title. I accidentally posted a different post in the wrong thread.
He doesn't have a position rating because he is a second baseman, but he doesn't have enough range to play second base. If you start playing him at first, he should acquire a rating there. Last edited by fuzzy_patters; 01-20-2017 at 10:20 PM. |

He still has his experience at 2nd base. In a pinch, you could play him there. But that is the game's way of telling you "he really shouldn't play there anymore!" if you look in the editor, you'd find his 2B experience should still be at the full 200 provided he plays there.
I pressed a declining 3B once into playing third despite losing his rating. He wasn't great with the glove obviously, but he was only so much of a butcher that his bat was able to compensate for it. Better than playing a AAA 3B. Anyway, your guy needs to move to first. Or maybe corner OF if he has the ratings, but he might be kicked from there soon as well, so better to first.

I don't like how this is handled. Their fielding rating shouldn't just disappear.
Sure he has bad range so he won't get to as many balls hit his way but he knows how to play the position. When you combine their range, arm strength, experience etc they should have a rating and in this example this player should even have more than the minimum, probably around 40.
