Importing historical players to all time roster

First time playing OOTP 17; and I love it. I have a question, though. Am I able to take a player from a past season and put him into the all time all star roster? I was trying to get David Cone (1994) to be on the Royals squad. I was running into all sorts of problems. I'd love to keep doing it with other teams also. I was trying to sort through the manual but was unable. Do you have step by step instructions on how to do it? Thanks a lot for your help

Actually, after further review; I figured it out. But, was there anyway to save the changes in the roster I made?
