under game settings> historical check the box that says "automatically import historical rookies"

see the note just below that - you cannot have an Amateur Draft in order to have rookies assigned to their historical teams. (you can turn the draft off under
game settings>rules on the right side of the screen Amateur Draft settings.

you may want to also check "Automatically Expand League" under the historical settings. This will allow team moves and new teams to be entered according to history.

there is a setting to have historical minors, which means you can't create your own. But i am in the middle of a season and can't seem to locate that feature. i may be in the game creation settings. That will allow players from the minors to enter the game in "real" time.

i also recall (but can't find right now) players would be assigned to their historical teams as in real life (with trades, etc.) must have my dunce cap on today ... but the options are out there. i did find this link in the manual that may help. Seems only can be used in game creation ????
Out of the Park Developments Online Manuals

Hopefully someone else can fill in the gaps or you can find them with the manual or searching the boards ... Sorry couldn't be more help or more specific ..... Good luck and have fun.

oh, the historic players show up on their teams (under the folder Players Designated For Assignment) first day of Post Season ... after WS. i believe it is the year AFTER they actually entered baseball, but i'm not certain.

everything he said is basically correct.

The first step is the go to the main settings screen screen and select new historical league. This will take you to another screen where there will be a check box for importing real minor leagues. You have to leave that box UNCHECKED if you want to have real players on their actual teams throughout their careers in a historical game, it won't work otherwise. It's also important here to click show advanced options and change it to base potential ratings on remaining years of career. Then in the adjust hitter options at the bottom, if you are playing with historical rosters and lineups, you want to cut the numbers in half for hitters only (i.e. 300 to 150 and 40 to 20). Both of these things will bring more accurate results.

Then it will take you to step 2 and that's where you'll want to check the box to use historical transactions. You can check to use historical lineups too if you want to.

At that point, rather than starting the game you should click advanced options in the bottom left corner. Go to the historical settings to confirm that use historical transactions and to automatically import historical rookies. By using historical transactions, the following aspects of the game automatically will be disabled: amateur draft, financial system, and trades. If you choose to use historical lineups, it will disable injuries and suspensions as well. If you're using historical lineups, you should disable plater development under global settings>players and facegen.

Also, depending on what year you are playing, you might want go to league settings>players and edit the default player origin and click reset to 100% nation league, so the auto-generated coaches and owners (so you don't get a russian oligarch, for example, owning a team during the height of the cold war.

That's basically it. The rookies will show up on their teams as soon as the previous season ends. They will be generated in whatever year they first put up statistics in the major leagues (as opposed to when they first joined the organization minor leagues).

The way historical transactions works is there is a file that lists all the historical transactions on the day they happened. You can see this by clicking the MLB menu and selecting transactions, then on the left clicking historical transactions. As the days go by in the game, it processes whatever transaction happened on that day. There you can see the status of the transaction and it should always say the transaction was executed ok unless the player was already retired. However, there' not much reason to check the historical transactions status other that to confirm everything is going ok or to do trouble shooting.

Excellent posts, the only thing I would add is (if I remember correctly!) don't be surprised if your roster size sometimes exceeds 25 (if playing real lineups/transactions). I think it keeps players on the mlb team instead of sending them to the minors.

Thanks for the posts above. I am looking to do the same thing.

So disabling the amateur draft and import historical rookies will automatically put players on their actual Teams?

Where is the option for historical trades?

It puts players on their debut teams. For example, Nellie Fox will be on the Athletics.

Right.
A feature I would love added to the game is to have an option to play year by year with players on their team that year, each april 1 say. So a player traded during the season, would start with thier first team. Reggie is in oakland in 75, baltimore 76, yankees 77 automatically.

I know there is historical transactions, but that also forces players to retire or be off rosters or what not based on real life. I would still love the ability to have dimmagio or williams play in 43-45 for example, or not have kaufax retire...yet still have anyone traded or signed with a new team there to start the following season.

OK. So Historically players will appear to go where they were originally drafted.

If I run a computer run historical league, where can I set computer trades to very low? That way players will remain with original teams for significant time.

To set AI trade frequency to low or whatever, go to league settings/rules and and at the very bottom of the left side you will find the AI trade frequency options. Of course, if you're playing pre-1975 with the reserve clause in effect, most players won't be going anywhere anyway,

That being said...

/begin rant

This has been a pet peeve of mine for generations of this game. Why is the AI trade frequency setting hidden in the bottom depths of the rules section, rather than the in AI settings section? Trade frequency is not a "rule"; there's no "rule" about how often an AI team can trade. Makes no sense. The AI trade frequency setting should be under AI settings, up there with trade difficulty and preference in the section specifically reserved for "Trading AI Settings".
