Angry OOTP 2007 Demo & Vista issue

Hi folks, long time OOTP user having a frustrating problem. Under my new ACER Aspire 5100-3354 Laptop (Vista Premium, 2ghz AMD Turion chip, 1gb ram)I cannot get the demo to work at all. I will buy the game if the demo works but didn't want to fork down the cash before making sure.

NOTE: I DID check and do what was suggested with the FAQ W/R/T the issues facing Vista and nothing happened. I have installed and uninstalled the program three times (removing all OOTP folders at the same time) and nothing happens. It's really getting me mad. I figure it's most likely some lame Vista error (I also turned off the stupid security warnings that Microsoft put in), turned off windows AND norton firewalls and nothing is working. No matter what I do, it just won't boot. So unless this can be resolved here somehow, I fear my days playing OOTP will be stalled until Vista is more stable with programs.

Version: Demo
PC/MAC: PC
What were you doing? Trying to start the game
What happened? game won't open despite following all of FAQ suggestions
Reproducible? Yes (reinstalled the program 3 times)
Problem occurs with other leagues? N/A

So you started OOTP "as admin" already? That's very important.

Also please try to activate the trace mode, and check the file ootp.log. That will help us to see what doesn't work.

Yes,

I started it that way because, well, as it was installing I read about the issues and figured it was best to do it that way. It's an odd issue. what exactly is a trace mode? I am 'good' with computers but always am learning new things.

when I searched trace mode it showed 'first names' in the sports interactive data folder. Also, where do I find the log. I really liked 2006 when I used it on my old XP laptop. I just hope this issue (as strange as it is), can be solved.

Please read this FAQ post: How to add a command line parameter

Then start the game, let it crash and look for a file ootp.log in the /My Documents/SI.../OOTP.../data folder

OK, did all that and nothing happens still. No log anywhere in the data folder (just ootp folders). And here's the true root of the problem: the game won't even load. I click the OOTP Icon and it doesn't start. never has. windows shows the 'waiting' icon for about 4 seconds or so and then no program starts. This is what I don't get about the program. I've NEVER had any program do that and never had vista compatibility issues before this.

"OOTPB Won't Start at All, or Error when starting game: "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click on ok to terminate application."
1. In your Control Panel, open the System control panel applet.
2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Under Performance, click Settings.
4. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
5. Change the Data Execution Prevention ("DEP") setting to "turn on DEP for essential sevices only"
6. OK out of the control panel.
7. If you are using Vista, right-click on the OOTPB 2007 icon and select "Run as Administrator."
8. Try again!

I figured out my mistake, I make an 'excusion' for OOTP not the essentials. I actually was gonna write how it was 'all wrong' and how it 'doesn't work' then I reread what's posted there, and I did that w/o reading it properly. So, Thanks for your time Andreas. I'm sure your job is a never ending 'battle' with those, who, like me, didn't read properly enough.
