crash while installing

finally i convinced myself to join the ootp community and bought the game. unfortunately i cant install it. when the install shield wizard comes to the window: "configuring windows installer" the setup process hangs up and freezes.

i updatetd the windows installer with V. 3.1. but that didnt help.
and now?

what version of windows are you using? Are you positive you downloaded the PC version of the game and not the mac?

windows xp home and i am sure about the right version. i went to friend with the setupexe on usbstick and installed it there and it worked although his pc (xp professional) started lagging @ the same point of the process, but then installed the game properly.

Make sure you have enough space on the drive your OS is on (C: presumably), no matter where you eventually want to install the game...if the installer fails to unpack all the data to the temporary folder, it will probably hang (at least I've had that happen with other programs).

had only 167 MB left and cleaned up a little bit

Now make sure you clean up more space or the game could start crashing. Microsoft recommends that 15% of your hard drive have free space for optimal performance (or something like that). Oh, and defrag too.
