C Todd The Paladin joined your team

I'm a commish in the VGML online league, and sometime within the past two sims (Nov 25 2006 ingame), perhaps 50 new players were for some reason created and placed on various teams in the league. Every team got at least one player, but some only got one, and others got eight, and everywhere in between.

Most of these players are scrubs who will never see the majors, but some are quite good and would definitely have a ML future if allowed to survive. One pattern I noticed while tracking them down that many of the batters were rated ~45/95/45/45/45 in potentials. Strange. The names are all different, and they players come with all ratings. Its as if the computer randomly generated a number of players and then assigned them to teams.

Has anyone seen this happen before in a league, or does anyone know what might cause this?

We're using OOTP 2007 Patch 2. The league was started with OOTP 2006 using a 2006 MLB roster set, possibly Rolen's. The upgrade occured about 3-4 sims prior to this "event", and everything went smoothly.

Todd The Paladin? Are you the only commish in this league? Are you certain that another commish wasn't messing around? That name sounds a bit ... edited.

Todd The Paladin is the only odd name of the bunch. His name is up there as more of a hook than anything else.

Most of the names are more normal. Here's a sample:
C Jerrem Meyer
SS Steve Reed
RF Ciceron Felicihno
RF Andy Culpepper
SS Alla Guzman

They are of all ages and skill levels too.

I've talked with the other commish, and he didn't put these guys in.

Were these new players put on major league rosters? Any particular level of minor leagues?

Do their player histories show anything noteworthy? Do team transaction histories mention these players at all? Are you certain that some sort of computer AI wasn't run on the teams which led to them signing these players?

The only entries on the history page for any of these players was "11-25-06: Joined the Atlanta Braves" or whatever team they were on. Most of them were found in DFA, but some were free agents (their histories were the same as the others "11-25-06: Joined the New York Yankees" with no indication that they had been released or whatever.

On the team transaction pages: this is what it looks like:

We've deleted all the guys now, so I can't get a screen cap of what the individual player history pages looked like.

My co-commish has hypothesized that these players are spillover from the high school/college feeder leagues he created that sim, but the ratings/age brackets of some of the guys makes me uncertain of that:

I suppose not, but did you or the other commish accidentally select "fill teams with fictional players" in the league setup/functions?

Yes I did, because I thought they would only fill up the league I selected with fictional players (high school and college feeder leagues). Maybe the game took it as if to say to fill up every team on the database with fictional players...

I'm the other commish, by the way.

Did each team's rosters fill to a certain number of players? 25 at each level, or some such?

No. As far as I can tell, all of them were put in the DFA area of the major league club. Some ended up in the free agent pool, but were shown as having joined a major league club. As one example, Kendry Uvalle (player card shown above) was a free agent after these guys showed up. The Yankees transaction page shows him as joining the team, but does not show him ever leaving it.

As you can see from my previous post, he was clearly a free agent, yet there is no record of him having been dumped from the team.

You may have had the wrong league selected. It's easy to have your eye on the wrong "Selected League" indicator while in the League Setup:

Er, can you two decide which is right? RyzinEnagy, is cnield's version of the events correct?

As this thread has not seen a response in a week (and I suspect that you figured out what happened), it will now be closed. If you need any further help with it, ask a moderator to re-open the thread and we can continue our discussion. Thanks.
