Mac Offline Authentication
Ok, I got the game for my MacBook Pro and it works fine when I am on my wireless network but being it on a laptop, I don't always have an internet connection when playing OOTP 8. Sometimes, when at my mom's house for the holidays or something, I want to play but she has no internet.
I do have the iPhone and have used this to try to acquire the code to activate the game but every time it tells me the code is not right. I've even tried coming to my office, unplugging my internet and then when I get to the activation again, I go to the internet on this laptop and have copied/pasted. I'm positive that I have full access to my computer and the files, esp those having to do with the OOTP stuff. I also am running OS X 10.5 Leopard, in case that matters. Thanks. |

Little more info...
To add to this, I have contacted the license company that is used for the mac only to find a reply that tells me "whom to direct my question to" giving me the email link tot he email I had actually sent to...
So basically, I'd be stuck in a loop with them. |

I had this same problem, there is no offline authentication available. Every code comes back invalid. I had to go back and forth with the licensing company multiple times before they gave up and said it was something ootp programmed into the game. I provided screenshots and everything.
Which makes me mad too because sometimes I dont always have an internet connection and its kinda of misleading that it says it will authenticate but it doesnt. Not to mention I dont like the idea of having paid for something and to constantly be checked each and every time i open the game. Personally its really a turn off to be treated like this and get no formal fix or response from OOTP. On the first day there was no line in the system requirements for mac that said "requires an internet connection to start game" but theyve since added it and been totally quiet about this issue. Every day that goes by without a resolution to this I play the game less and less. Its a total and blatant invasion of my privacy. I dont think in the future i'll be buying further revisions of the game if this is how they treat customers who faithfully purchased their product within hours of it being announced on day one. I dont think id be so mad if it all users had to do this or it was stated up front. Its the fact I bought the game and went through hours of support emails back and forth with no firm answer and then to find out its just mac users. Then a line was added to the system reqs page without a formal reply back, my support chain ended with the licensing company pointing back to ootp and ootp being silent. The best irony of all of this is that mac users are the only ones required to have a connection. Not PC users, only mac users. Youd think this technology is to impede piracy, yet they chose the smallest OS market and neglected to use it for the most commonly installed OS, and their largest customer base. Sega didnt treat mac users this way. SI Games didnt treat mac users this way. Hell OOTP doesnt even treat their PC users this way. But us dirty mac users need to be watched. |
