Hrm. You've only seen this issue using CubbyFan's rosters?
So you restored your backup and everything worked fine, but you are concerned that it is going to happen again and you want to know how to avoid it? Admittedly, I'm not sure why it happened and it may very well be related to the league files. I'm not sure what to offer other than the suggestion to continue to regularly back up your saved game.
