FAs unable to be signed?

Dug around and could not find anything on this.

In our online league using Nomar's 2007 roster set, there have been some players that have been cut by teams, yet cannot be signed.

I noticed a player was cut from the All Transactions report, but could not find him in the FA Pool, but he appeared on a player search. He cannot be offered a contract however.

I've tried retiring and unretiring him, but it makes no difference. Tried placing him on a roster, and then cutting him, to no effect.

Any help appreciated.

What time of year (or more accurately the season) was he cut? Is he an older player?

It seems to vary, one is a 26yo starter who filed for FA via minor league FA. Some others who were cut early in the season (we're in the offseason now), are 25 and 26.

Are these players forign players, is there a limit on the number of forign players in the league? Are their multible leagues and if so are FA allowed to move between leagues? There could be other league setting like the above ones that are not allowing players to be signed...

Not foreign players and no other foreign leagues. Confusing all around. I don't guy why some cut players can be signed but not these guys.

I've seen this problem once, but only with CubbyFan's 2008 roster set. I think the issue might be specific to certain roster sets; in any case, I imagine it would be useful for Tech Support to know whether a pre-made roster set was being used.

It was Nomar's 2007 Roster set, as stated in original post.

It's not a problem with the game, it's a problem with the roster set, and therefore something few of us have encountered before. This type of thing never happens in fictional leagues. I'd guess there is some problem with the player record, some hidden flag that is preventing you from offering a contract. Only someone who could get into players.dat could say; I'm not able to do that.

What does it take to access the .dat files?

I can access the .dats but I've done it off my own back in working out what fields are, so there are swathes of unknowns in there. It's possible that one of these may contain a flag. If I send you a PM with my email address, could you send me your players.dat file along with the name/id of the player who can't be signed, and preferably as well the name/id of a free agent who can be signed

I'll try to work on compiling some of that info and get it to you. Thanks!
