Cuts with team options?

If a player has a team option for the final year, but gets cut before that, should the team be charged? It seems like a fairly easy cheat to sign guys to +1 years with a team option for more, then cut him before the final year. Just wondering how this is handled in reality.

Player A is in the final year of a 3M contract and has a team option for another year at 5M. He is cut early in the season and the game tells me it will add just 2.9M to expenses. Is this the way it should be?

If a team doesn't exercise a team option at the time of it coming around they don't get charged for it. Boston won't have to pay $20m if they don't take Manny's 2009 option, so I'd imagine if the player left the team early there'd be no penalty to pay - imagine if the player suffered a CEI, it would be a bit unfair to then penalise the team financially for it.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't think it was a bug per se, just wanted to see how it worked in real life.
