Manager Locked Up for Life?

I'm not sure when this happened. I recall finding my manager at the end of last season with an expired contract, but unsigned with anyone else - still listed with my team. I gave him an extension. This year, I happend to notice the results of that negotiation have ... uh ... somewhat changed. Somehow his contract is through 2270. Can't find a way to change this in the editor. Yet.

There should be an option in the Editor tab if you go into your Team and find the Personnel tab and choose the manager. In the bottom left is an option for contract and extension.

So, any idea how this happened in the first place? Any editing done previously? Any disabling and reenabling of coaches?

No. On the personal side, doesn't matter any longer. Not finding a way to solve it, I deleted the league and moved on. On the WTH side of things, to the best of my recollection, I noticed my manager slot was vacant on the personnel screen. I went looking for him, wondering why the SOB left and I never got any notice and/or hadn't noticed his contract was going to expire. Did a Search. Found him listed with no contract, but listed on my team. At that point, I couldn't understand why he was listed on my team, but wouldn't show up anywhere on my personnel screens.

I thought maybe he was 'between' contracts or God had simply giving me a grace period in which to sign him. I did, to - I think - it was a five year contract. I moved on. Whether it was that day or a little later, I noticed the erroneous info and posted it. Back to why. I just don't know, but it started with the missing slot and finding him still on my team 'on paper', but without any contract.

IIRC, that option does not allow you to modify the existing contract. If it was there, I missed it and dumped it for nothing. I don't think you can modify the existing contract years.

I'm sure the editor screen does change the current contract - in fact, I'm pretty sure I put all of my coaches in one league on ten year contracts to test something out.

The drop down should still appear even if the value is beyond the limits of the drop down (1-10)

Okay. I found a saved league file and looked more closely at his situation. You're right. The pulldown option was there. He was listed as 1 contract year remaining at $0 and a 5 year extension at ~150,000 per year. So what likely happened was when I discovered him still listed on my team, but without a contract, I gave him an extension rather than offering a contract outright (I'm guessing, but it's the only way I can see $0 dollars for the remaining contract making any sense). The result was that the year of the extension went way out to 2270 or whatever it was.

I used the pulldown to set the remaining years to 2 (arbitrarily) with a dollar amount (it doesn't matter how much) and left the extension alone. The year reset to a normal looking figure and the problem, such as it was, seemed to go away. The cause of the real problem, which was why he vacated my personnel page but still showed listed as belonging to my team, still remains unexplained and may never be understood. At least if someone brings up this issue, we'll have a notion about how to correct it anyhow.

As far as I'm concerned, yes, you can close it now. Some things we'll just never know.

OK. Closed. If anyone can repeat the initial bug and give steps as to how to do it, then we'll reopen this one.
