Game Freezes

Version: 8.0.0.13
PC/Mac: PC
What was I doing? Trying to auto-play in historical league.
What happened? When simming, the game gets to April 6, 1949 and freezes.
Reproducible? Yes.

Since I can't get the "import complete history" feature to work, I started in 1901 and tried to auto-play into the 1970s. Everything works fine until I get to April 6, 1949. As it sims the day, it just freezes.

I tried to autoplay year by year and it froze. I also tried week by week and one day at a time, and the same thing happened. I also ran computer manager on April 5, 1949, hoping that might for some reason be the problem. It wasn't.

Anybody got any ideas?

Is there anything unusual about that particular day? Is it the first day of the regular season?

There does not seem to be anything unusual about the day. It's just a day full of spring training games...no more or less games than any other day.

I started another historic league in 1901 with all of the same settings. It also picked April 6th, 1949 to freeze.

In full disclosure, I am simming spring training and all of the minor leagues in this league. I don't know if that would have any bearing on this. There doesn't seem to be any warning this freeze is coming. Things are plugging along, then it stops on this particular date.

Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

April 6th is still in Spring Training, huh? Are you sure that that date doesn't mean anything in any of your leagues? It couldn't be Opening Day in one of your minor leagues?

I had the game autosaved to January 1st, 1949. I tried to get up to April 5th to see what the heck was going on on the 6th.

But now the game freezes on February 4th, 1949. It's the middle of the offseason, and there is nothing going on. I tried three different times, and each time it stopped on February 4th.

I'm at a loss.

Let's go back a step. This is indicative of limited system capability. You've built up near 50 years of history in your major and minor leagues.

Could you list your operating system, processor speed, RAM, and hard drive space (full and available)?

I'm using Windows XP. I've got a Pentium III processor. I've got 384 MB of RAM. I have a hard drive with 75GB of space. I still have a 25GB available.

I'm going to try to start in 1901 without the minor leagues and see if that helps. I'm using an older desktop computer for this which may be part of the problem..or the whole problem.

My bigger disappointment is I can't import complete history. I still get the runtime error, which I asked about in an earlier thread and never got resolved.

Thanks again for any help any of you can be. I'm just frustrated because I've had this game for several weeks and I haven't even been able to play it one time. I'm still trying to get my league set up...but I keep running into problems.

You have 384 MB of RAM total? That is definitely your problem, both in running this league and in trying to import complete history.

OOTP allows you to create very complex and involved leagues, but it is limited by one's hardware capabilities. The larger a universe you create and the more history and stats that you accumulate, the more trouble you'll have.

Cutting out some minor leagues would help. Game Options settings you'll want to look at are: use complete scouting system, create and maintain hidden players, anything to do with FaceGen images, keep career L/R splits, keep career fielding stats, keep career posts. stats, delete those who never reach majors, save box scores, save game logs, and keep news logs. For each league, look at select stats detail.

The less you try to cram into your league, the longer it should run without giving you problems.

Is there anything further that I can help you with?

I've bought 3 or 4 versions of OOTP in the past, but the last one was OOTP5. I had never had a problem using them on my computer. Obviously, things have been amped up a little bit with the program in the last several years. I was just trying to shoot for the moon, but didn't realize I didn't have the goods to run the program to it's fullest.

Thanks for your help. I've killed the minor leagues and gotten rid of some other perks in hopes the game will make it.

Thanks again for helping me get to the bottom of the problem.
