Vista Crash

Okay, I've been playing OOTP for a while (since 4.5), been running 2008 (13) on this Vista machine for a few months. Recently, the computer crashed while I was playing. Now, if I try to load an existing large league, it will go through the entire process up to "Finalizing", then lock up the whole machine. I can create/load one of the smaller, standard leagues, but if I try to create a larger, standard league, it will go through the entire process, then when it comes to the "You need to create a manager" screen, clicking okay hangs up the entire computer. Sometimes, if I wait long enough, the C++ error pop-up frame will appear, but there is nothing in the frame. I have to hard reboot the computer every time. (Left it on all night last night just to make sure it wasn't a time issue.)

I've uninstalled/reinstalled three times, including turning off the computer after the uninstall, and moved the directory just to eliminate anything that might be related to that. I'm pretty sure it's a computer issue, not an OOTP issue. (I've used different downloads to install to eliminate that problem.)

Any ideas what neat Vista quirk could be behind this? thanks

OByTheWay, none of my other programs seem to be having similar problems, so there may be an OOTP config setting that could help.

Sorry to keep posting myself, but I'm starting to think it has something to do with the human manager. The opening screen for most leagues is the manager home, and it crashes trying to go there. For the leagues I can open, they start with a league home screen, which opens fine, but if I try to go to one of the manager screens, BANG, down goes Frazier. That give anybody a glimmer of where the problem might lie?

This will be my final "reply to self" (unless something else interesting happens that ties in to this problem). Copied an existing league that would crash OOTP8 into a 2007 subdirectory. Opened OOTP 2007. League seems to play fine in 2007. Curiouser and Curiouser. (Now I just have to figure out how to turn the 2007 demo version into a full version until my OOTP8 problem is solved.)

Does your manager have a FaceGen image? If so, have you tried disabling FaceGen or running one of the Troubleshooting modes found in the Game Preferences of the opening screen?

I finally did a "hard" uninstall (deleted all the directories associated with OOTP), then reinstalled and it worked fine. Apparently, there was something being saved in those directories that was causing the problem, possibly the FaceGen issue.
