Crashing upon league creation and navigation to some pages

Whenever I create a league (fictional, historical, quick start) the game freezes for about five to seven minutes and crashes with an error message saying:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!
Program: ...s/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 8/ootp8.exe
abnormal program termination"

as soon as it finishes creating the game or (in the case of quick starts) as soon as the "create a manager identity" message shows. When I reload the game I just created, everything in the game works as it should except for when I try to navigate to "Home Page" or "News" from the "Manager" menu or by using the corresponding buttons on the lower navigation bar. Whenever I try to navigate to those pages, the game freezes, crashes and shows the error message as previously mentioned. I have tried many times in hopes that maybe one time this would stop happening, but have had no such luck. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm in or out of commish mode. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but the problems still continue. I even tried changing skins thinking that maybe that could be the problem. It had no effect.

I downloaded the game (OOTP 8) back in March and had no problems (that i couldn't fix or that didn't go away with time) until these problems cropped up a little over two weeks ago. Though this is my first time playing OOTP, I love the game, but I haven't really been able to play it with these problems. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is and/or what I can do about it?

Could you please share your system specs with us? Operating system, processor speed, RAM, and available hard drive space.
