Manual HOF selection now takes only *one* eon
Just following up on a tech-support thing from a month or two ago:
At the time, when I'd manually induct someone into my Hall of Fame, then go to Retired Players (or Retired and Active Players), I'd get a "Reading Players" message, and it would be as much a two ours and 20 minutes before I could do anything else with OOTP. I was advised, among other things, to get rid of loads of files, such as saved boxscores. I did all this -- it took weeks, for a variety of reasons, one of which was that this particular universe had reached over 50 years of age. Concurrently, I ran into a problem wherein -- long story marginally shorter -- I screwed up my league to a point where I had to rebuild it from the ground up. (If only there were a way to, say, start a season over....) I'm now in the twenty-second year of this particular universe and -- league structures being the way I set them up to be -- there hasn't been any automatic HOF selection yet, but I've wanted to add a handful of players myself. So now the process takes about 10 minutes per player. This is in a universe in which minor leagues stats aren't very detailed, boxscores and game logs aren't saved, and I'm doing my best to keep up with policing the files I don't need (such as messages). I think the universe folder is a couple hundred megabytes. Does 10 minutes sound about right, or should manual selection go much faster? If the latter... any other suggestions? Thanks, as always. |

Well, I think that we covered just about everything before, but the following link gives just about all of the suggestions that I can come up with:

If you're running on a PC, could you go to this website HexEdit and download the hexeditor, fire it up and open the retired.dat file in your saved game directory.
At the start of the file should be a 00 - could you reply listing what the next four sets hex numbers are. This will let me know how many records are in your retired players database.

I simmed a fictional league 100 years to get a large number of retirees (9000 or so) and it popped up the retired list fairly quickly (<10 seconds), when I made one a member of the HOF it saved the game fairly quickly as well but then took over 30 seconds to read the players again.

Yep, just over 14000 so it shouldn't take too much longer than my game with 9000. How long does the game take to save at the end of each year?
