OOTP8 Trojan?

I've had OOTP8 for some time now and nothing was wrong. But after loading up CubbyFans rosters, I go to start it up again, and AVG pops open a "Threat detected!" window:

File name: C:\WINDOWS\lcmmfu.cpl
Threat name: Trojan horse Injector.L
Detected on open.

I tried all the options, but it comes up every time I try to play the game and will refuse to run. I even tried restarting.

Now, I'm sure that OOTP8 isn't a trojan virus, but I'd really like to play it again. Any ideas?

Yeah, I just saw this behavior today. The file in question is an elicense one that is used to verify that you have purchased the game.

In AVG, you can go to Advanced Settings -> Resident Shield -> Exceptions and then exclude the C:\Windows directory. It's not an ideal solution, but it will make your game work again.

Please let me know if that works for you as well.

Yeah that worked. Thanks.

Hopefully, a solution comes around that's not as "risky." But this will do for now.

This has royally screwed up my game. I still have the file in question after I selected "ignore" in the AVG prompt. But the game simply won't work after the initial warning. I tried disabling AVG and reinstalling the game, but OOTP simply won't load. I hope this isn't going to be a problem tomorrow when people install the new version.

Same thing with my Title Bout 2.5 What should we do? I dont want to screw anything up by deleting any files.

Your solution works on Title Bout 2.5 as well. I ask what is the risk in doing this? I change it back after playing the game. Very aggravating to say the least. I clicked heal, ignore and neither worked. If it is the e license and I delete..poof. Please let me know if there are any other solutions. PM me if you dont mind. People responsible for these virus problems should be publicly flogged.

Trojan

Thanks for the info, but this sucks. I should be able to run the game and my fire wall too. When does the real fix come?

Of note, another user has posted:

"If you already responded to the threat by placing the file in the AVG virus vault, you can open the AVG interface and use the "History" menu item to select the virus vault, then select that file and restore it."

Will try that...thank you. I used to be a baseball junkie but the strike couple with the home run derby seasons that followed really took a lot of my love for the game away. However, been getting the itch to sim. I used to be an avid APBA board game player back in the day..thinking about getting OOTP. I have been reading some reviews and it literally sounds awesome. Take care and thanks for the advice. Back to the TBCB world for now..LOL
