Historical and WWII
I don't play historical sims at all, but I know that there were some players who didn't play because they went to the war. I was wondering how the new historical stat thing does that? Do they dissapear for a year or two? or does it just leave them in the game and average it out?

WW II is not handled, nor is Korea, nor the draft service that snagged quite a few players in the 50's.
In the suggestion forum last year, a war.txt file was suggested to tell the game when a historical player left for military service, and when they returned. I can guarantee it will be suggested again. |

I wonder how that could play out in fictional leagues. It could be treated as an injury, wiht possible sub-injuries that would be career-ending including death...

I read somewhere that you had the option to re-import player attributes every season to make the game as historically accurate as possible. Like Ruth changing from P to RF, and Eck from SP to CL. How does this work for those guys who went to war?
EDIT: Here it is from the changelist. - Added the option to recalculate player ratings based on real life stats before each new season Last edited by Russ : 02-14-2007 at 05:41 PM. |

I think the way it is describes is that when you start a league you can chose how many years are used to create their ratings each year. One year will not make that drastic a difference but rather it will be a slower decline...

in 2006, the arod-garlon db 2.1 DOES add the war years by averaging stats 3 years before and 3 years after to fill in the gap. Assume it will be upgraded for 2007

I believe it was stated that you could choose year-by-year, or either a three or five year rolling average. I like five year rolling averages.

Just a note, but for the effects of WWII and the Korean War to be correctly modelled, there would also have to be some additional roster limit rules added to the game. Players returning from those wars were placed on a special roster list which didn't count against the normal roster limits. The precise nature of how it worked depended on which war.
