How does Custom Award work?

Do you just have one custom award or can you have more than one?

Also, is there a "Manager of the Year" award?

Right now, just one. Bone of contention in beta, but we're running out of time.

At least there is one.

Oh yeah...on the topic of awards...does the Player History now name the award correctly with what you called it in League set-up. I remember in last year's version it would still have the Default name instead of what you changed it to. All those Glove wizards!

It does. I have a Greek league with a whole bunch of guys whose histories record their winning of Heracles awards, Odysseus awards, and the like.

Could the custom award be customized into a Manager of the Year Award?

I think so, but I am having a bit of fun with more oddball awards right now.

How does the custom award work? Can it calculate a custom-defined score based on stats and give the award to the best score? Can it only be based on one stat? What sorts of parameters exist?

the custom award winner is manually chosen by the human at the controls, whether that be an online league voting process, the solo simming commish, or human acting as a GM

Customized awards, you just name the award and make your selection for it. It really does not become powerful until you are in an online league, where a great deal of people vote.

I wasn't able to figure out how to select non-players when I took a look at it a few builds ago. I'll try to remember to check this over the weekend.

Just to clarify: on the awards that are traditional, and on all-star selections, does the gamer get to over-ride the AI choices, or is it restricted to custom awards only.

In my opinion, the 2 most glaring omissions, as far as awards go, are Manager of the Year and a true MVP. While it'll be nice to be able to simply enter the name of the award winner for the custom category, I wish the game would at least choose these 2 awards. In the future, perhaps a Reliever of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and even Executive/GM of the Year could be included, but I can see where they're not as imperative.

Also, it would be sweet if we had the option to either give one award for each sub-league OR one award for the entire league.

The gamer is provided with the option to pick the winners. You can also ask the game to suggest winners, and then change them before accepting.

The custom award does not get suggested by the AI because the game knows nothing other than the name of the award, so you have to pick it manually. It doesn't have a clue that your custom award is a league MVP, a reliever of the year, or bunter of the year.

I agree with that. I'd also like to see a 'Silver Slugger' type award, in which the best hitter at each position receives one (a la the Golden Glove), rather than just one player per league.

The way the game is set up now, a 'Super Scout' award really wouldn't work. Maybe if the AI teams could do world scouting? (That's a hint.)

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

OOTP doesn't know stats, only names!
