No Coaches or Scouts- Simplicity

I believe that the fan base of OOTP is completely split over the issue of whether or not to use C&S or not. I personally hate the aspect of C&S in the game particularly Scouts. To me it is a complete waste of time but I understand that there are many who feel it is a very important part of the game.
What is important is that if we turn them off (i assume that is possible) we understand exactly how the rating system works w/o using them and is a very simple procedure to do and to understand.

Yeah, I'm not too big on scouts as they work now, but I like the idea of them. Coaches have kind of grown on me a bit, especially now that manager careers will be tracked.

In v2006 I have avoided both.

Scouts, because the work was too tedious, and Coaches, because the best ones were too easy to acquire and their histories weren't tracked.

In v2007 (from the early sounds of it) looks like I'll use/enjoy both features.

I don't really have any problem with them in the game and if they are improved who knows what i may do or not do. In the past, however i have always turned them off in solo leagues and absolutely will not join an online league up to 6.5 that uses either one. It is hard for me to visualize using Scouts in an online league unless there is a dramatic improvement in how they are used.

One thing that may be overlooked. The usage of Scouts seems to really add to the tedious tasks involved in the game and for someone like me who plays both solo and 4-5 online leagues it becomes a real problem of time and i am retired w/o a family. Also I play Bowl Bound and FOF and when you add it all up I want depth in any game but tedious tasks are a real turnoff.

I set up most scouts with a task list of about 7 items, then set them to cycle their list. I touch the scouts maybe twice a year, all they do is gather data. It will be once a year if a TT issue I made gets resolved.

waltwa,

Can you explain what you're uncertain about when scouts and coaches are turned off?

I like the idea that former players can be coaches now. It will be fun tracking your favorite bench warmer after he retires at age 33 and becomes a minor league coach.

Someone in another thread was asking about how often the ratings update when playing without scouts. In their experence they only updated on January 1, or whenever you hit 'SISA Rescout' (which I didn't even realize you could do with scouting off). My experience has been that the ratings update every time anything changes — sometimes several times in a day.

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

This happens in 2006 as well, but with no way to track records, was kind of a neat thing, but pointless. Noticed it when a manager had a 'nickname'.

Per "the man," with coaches and scouts off, ratings are updated constantly. There should be no need to wait for any specific date, or to run a SISA rescout.

To make the game harder for myself, I generally don't use C&S, and play with performance ratings off. That style of play works perfectly well in 2007, and I haven't been involved in testing the C&S system at all.

Battists i never really got into 2006 but there did seem to be a lot of unnecessary complication. All i am hoping for is that if we turn off Scouts the rating system is the same for everyone and there is absolutely no complication involved as it is in 6.5

I'm still unclear as to what complication there was in 2006 if you turned off scouts.

In 2006, if you turn off scouts, all players see the same ratings - the "true" player ratings, as they were. These are updated by the game on an ongoing basis as the players' ratings change.

ok great.I guess the real problem was that the game wasn't good enough to play in my opinion. Hopefully that will change in 2007.

Just curious but with ratings off, how do you draft?

I've always used scouts simply because I didn't want to see "actual" ratings. I'd turn them off if there was a way to play without scouts but with the game showing ratings through the eyes of an average scout or something.

Here's what Questdog told me back in September when I asked the same thing:

Well, I do keep talent ratings on (usually 1-10 scale), as well as "other ratings" (fielding, speed, etc., usually 1-5 scale).
