Until 2007 comes out ...

Are you still playing (assuming you were playing it to begin with) OOTP2006 and if so, how?

I like big games. Majors + Full Minors (often bigger than normal systems). Multiple US Independent Leagues. Multiple International Leagues. The thing I didn't like about OOTP2006 was having to create them all at once. The World template device helped but I also never liked how all these leagues started at the same time.

So I'm thrilled we can add and delete leagues as we go through our baseball careers. So now in 2006 I've created a very simple league, just the majors with minors. I did it deliberately when I heard 2007 would let you add leagues. Just waiting for the new version to come along so I can then begin tacking leagues on as I like. Still I'm not playing it as much. I'm waiting for all the other features I suppose. Has the news of the release and what it contains changed anyone else's playing habits?

I've thought about creating a template for the new game, but I decided to wait. I'll play the new version like a new toy at Christmas. I'll make lots of junk leagues, and see "what happens if?" Once I'm satisfied with how the game works, then I'll start a fresh league, and if that works, I'll bring over my leagues from 2006...

Oh yeah,

Just finished my 1953 fictional season (started in 1940) and will continue on to 1954. I'm very excited to make use of all the new functions in the new game with my existing league!

Yes I am! Once I heard that 2007 was coming out, I started a new universe with promotion/relegation starting in 1901

Division 1= MLB (using real players, with a draft, original teams circa 1901)
Division 2= 2 leagues
Division 3= 4 leagues
Division 4= 8 leagues

The Champion of each Division (as determined by a tournament played out through exhibition games in the pre-season of the NEXT season) then plays the lst place team of the above division (as determined by the loser of a tournament/series of the last place teams) in a best-of-three for the right to play in that division. Sounds like a lot, but it's not.

I'm really looking forward to a few things, mainly expansion and adding/deleting leagues. I'll probably continue playing this (i'm just simming currently) until I get a good vibe on 2007.

With the ability to add new leagues, you could create a new history of baseball...going from the turn of the century, with no minor leagues, to the development of independent leagues, which could become affiliated with teams over time, to the creation of a full-on minor league system, and the introduction of college baseball, and of course, the negro leagues. And then the anti-major leagues, which could then turn into a new league to rival the MLB.

The possibilities are almost endless...

I share your excitement about the new functions. Well, as excited as I ever get about anything. I did notice, I think it was Sweed, mention he was holding off starting his new season - thinking it was integral to the time of conversion - and then electing to move forward. To the point, I haven't really seen any commitment to the idea that Spring Training has undergone the overhaul I would have expected it to, but if it has it'd be great to start the new season off including that new function as well. Might be something to keep in mind, depending how important that area is to anyone.

Aside from testing the new game, I'm in two very good online leagues, and that is pretty much the only way I play the game. I've never been a solo player, really, but with 2007 I think I'm going to really get into historical simming!

I'm playing the heck out of 2006 right now. I am trying to get a few years in for my solo fictional league. I also started a dynasty with this league (which I haven't posted yet...). I will import the 2006 league to 2007, and hopefully everything is intact. Of course I said the same thing with moving from 6.5 to 2006, so who knows.

Planning

I don'thave 2006. What I'm doing is planning for 2007. Putting together some thoughts for solo leagues, and planning out the universes, and seeing what questions I may have before release. This way when we get the game, I can just dive right in.

I stopped playing '06 awhile ago because my main world just was not what I wanted it to be because of the 'no add/delete league' thing. Now I'm just tweaking my world's history (which I have pretty much planned out - some 25+ leagues from 1871-now) and fiddling with uniform logos for all of the teams in my world.

If, at least, transactions and waivers with level movements during this 'trial' period haven't been reviewed and revised, then I find this moderately disappointing.

Still playing 06 sparingly however as I'm somewhat addicted right now to FM07

Nope. I quit my current league because of no expansion, but now I can pick it up again due to included expansion in 2007. And besides, I'll also have FaceGen to make faces.

Just keeping everything on hold until 2007 comes out. Then I will copy my universe over to the new game and try it out. If things don't look good after a few sims, I will revert back to 2006 until patches have been released (and there will be patches for 2007, I'm sure).

One thing I am looking forward to, as others have mentioned here, is the ability to add in a league or two as I go along. I made the mistake (well, to me it was) of activating every league that was offered out of the box in 2006 in my first universe. Aside from the weeks that I spent setting all that up, I found that the span of the game was too much for me to focus on it all and immersion was nil for most of it.

Then I read that if I simmed several decades that a universe that large would probably grind to a halt eventually. That universe was recycled and replaced my a much leaner one.

However, I do miss the Mexican and Venezuelan Winter Leagues and I welcome the opportunity to bring them in 2007 without starting over. So, I'm grabbing my copy of OOTP 2007 on the first day and will begin monkeying around with it immediately, but I am not committing to it until proven.

I've stopped playing 2006 completely now. I really never fully played completely involving leagues in it anyway, but now that 2007 is about to come, I'm not going to start creating something new yet.

Sounds like alot are waiting or dreaming their perfect league.

I've got a league I enjoy that I just started (took the SF Giants to the WS in the first season although got beat by Texas) a season ago. However, I realize that, for my taste, I should've created another level of A ball, sort of a Low A level. This way I can deposit my 18-19 year olds who are ready for a full season but who aren't ready for higher A or AA. So now I'm toying with the concept of stopping play until 2007 so I can insert that extra league in there and roll on. What I love about the add league feature is it will save someone like me who might not think of every needed detail at creation but doesn't want to lose out because of that.

Yes. I'm planning on having a feeder league that isn't actually high school or college, but basically an extended little league. Players will start in it at a really young age (not sure if there are lower limits, but I'm thinking 12 or 13) and work their way up until they are 18 (I may have a second league that goes until 21), at which point they will enter the draft.

I'm starting a fresh new league when the game comes out. My old league was a piece of junk anyways. I got all my teams ready to go.
