Let's say I want to start a historical league in 1940. I want to manually enshrine Babe Ruth to the HOF but I don't want to add stats or anything. Basically just want him to "show up" in the HOF.

How might I add him? Do I simply create an old guy upon league creation, manually retire him, and manually put him in the HOF? Can I do that?

Why don't you import the league with the complete history? Then you have the complete HoF.

Well I generally customize my leagues quite a bit. For example, I go with 108 game schedules, 3-man rotations, 20 man rosters, and change the offensive environment quite a bit. So I don't really WANT the player histories there, I'm ok with simply starting at 1940 and letting things go from there.

You could edit the Lahman database and remove all his stats, I believe. Not sure if the import would still work, but theoretically...

You could certainly do what you proposed as well. take some scrub, rename him, and manually put him in the hall. Will look kinda silly, with a .000 career BA, but whatever floats your boat!
